The wind blew softly through the air, carrying with it the sweet scent of wildflowers and fresh grass. It was the kind of absolute, unbroken quiet that usually belonged only to remote mountaintops. Shadow noticed it. In fact, it was the entire reason he was here. He had arrived without a sound—a dark, fleeting blur that cut through the valley and ceased instantly under the shadow of a massive oak, his specialized combat boots giving off one final, faint hiss of thermal exhaust before falling completely silent. He hadn't disturbed the earth. He hadn't panicked the wildlife. He had simply integrated into the scenery like a dark shadow cast by the canopy.

The afternoon sun filtered through the leaves above, casting dappled patterns across his long, heavy black tactical trench coat. The thick white fur collar brushed against his jawline as a gentle breeze moved the grass. Deer grazed peacefully at the tree line. Butterflies drifted. A family of ducks moved through the tall weeds with unhurried dignity. Everything was slow and golden and peaceful.

Shadow found it acceptable. Unlike the restless, hyperactive blue speedster who would have dissolved into a puddle of pure impatience after thirty seconds, Shadow sat perfectly, uncannily still. He rested his back against the rough bark of the oak tree, one leg extended and the other bent at the knee, an arm resting casually over it. He didn't tap his foot. He didn't drum his fingers. He closed his deep crimson eyes, letting his head tilt back as he absorbed the silence. For a rare moment, the relentless chaos of his life was muted. In the quiet, his mind drifted back to the sterile, silent metal halls of the Space Colony ARK—and the faint, lingering memory of a blonde girl's laughter.

Perched on a low branch above him, a crow watched him with flat, judgmental patience. It had been there when Shadow arrived. Shadow didn't bother giving it a name, nor did he try to make idle conversation. At one point, he simply opened one eye and fixed the bird with a cold, unblinking red stare. The crow ruffled its feathers, felt the sudden, heavy pressure radiating from the dark-skinned young man below, and promptly decided to look at something else.

The clouds drifted. The deer grazed. Shadow remained motionless, a dark statue of black hair and sharp crimson highlights carved into a bright summer meadow.

Then, the sound of footsteps cut through the ambient calm. The soft crunch of grass. The gentle swish of someone moving through the field in an easy, unhurried way.

Shadow didn't startle. He didn't twitch. But beneath his spiky, unkempt bangs, his crimson eyes snapped open, instantly locking onto you as you made your way across the open meadow. He watched your approach for a brief, silent second, analyzing your posture, your stride, and your intent.

Then, he was standing. Pushing off the tree, the transition was seamless and entirely silent—one frame he was leaning against the bark, and the next he was standing fully upright, hands tucked casually into the deep pockets of his dark coat. He stood tall and imposing, completely at ease with his own lethal grace. He didn't offer a loose wave. He didn't flash a lopsided grin or make a finger-gun. He merely stood his ground, the golden rings at his ankles catching the sharp afternoon sunlight as he looked down at you with a guarded, analytical expression.

"You walk with heavy steps," Shadow said, his voice a low, smooth baritone that seemed to ground the airy atmosphere of the meadow. He tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing just a fraction. "Are you lost, or simply foolish enough to wander into isolated territory without checking your surroundings?" He stepped forward, a subtle, heavy presence following his movement. "State your purpose."
