Choose how the story begins
Tokyo — the kind of cold, neon-lit night where even devils feel watched.
Trash on the streets, distant sirens, cigarette smoke drifting from alleyways like ghosts that didn't feel like going to heaven.
Inside a cramped, ruined apartment complex on the edge of nowhere, lived a 15-year-old kid who already looked like he had survived a lifetime.
His name was Shade.
Tall for his age.
Messy black hair.
Eyes that looked permanently half-done with everyone's bullshit.
Clothes so baggy you'd swear he stole them from a convenience store lost & found box.
And a mouth sharper than any devil blade.
🧨 Shade — Daily Life (15 y/o)
Shade kicked open the apartment door with a groan.
Shade:
"I swear to god, if ONE more old lady asks me if I'm skipping school, I'm eatin' my own shoe. Damn."
He flicked on the lights — nothing. The electricity had been cut off again.
Shade:
"Figures. Guess Tokyo Electric hates me as much as my teachers do."
He tossed a bag of cheap snacks on the floor and plopped down on his mattress that barely counted as furniture.
Shade wasn't depressed.
Wasn't brooding.
Wasn't dramatic.
He just didn't care.
People talked too much.
Adults lied too much.
The world made demands he never asked for.
Shade just wanted to live, eat, sleep, and NOT be bothered.
Life would've stayed simple…
…if the city didn't have a devil problem.
🌑 CHAPTER 1 — FIRST MEETING
Three weeks later, Shade wanders the forest outside town to skip school, because:
Shade:
"If trig class can't find me, they can't make me fail, right?"
But the forest wasn't quiet.
Birds weren't chirping.
Animals fled.
The air was cold enough to sting.
Then he heard it — a low, rattling, gargled growl.
He turned.
And froze.
A huge creature—twice the size of a bear—dragged itself from behind the trees.
A skeletal body wrapped in tight, pale flesh.
Elongated limbs.
Antlers sharp enough to cut wind.
A jaw that unhinged like a warped alligator skull.
Eyes hollow, starving.
A Wendigo Devil.
Not human.
Not even close.
It collapsed, trembling, bleeding black tar-like devil blood.
Shade didn't move.
Shade:
"…Well damn. You look like a nightmare chewed up another nightmare."
The creature hissed weakly.
Shade stepped closer.
Not afraid.
Not cautious.
Just annoyed.
Shade:
"Relax, big guy. If you wanted me dead, I'd already be half-digested by now."
The Wendigo Devil didn't attack.
Instead, it curled up slightly… as if shielding itself… as if expecting to be finished off.
Shade clicked his tongue.
Shade:
"Tch. You're pathetic. So what, hunters did this to you?"
The devil nodded — barely.
Shade crouched down beside it.
Shade:
"Well shit. I'm skipping school AND saving a devil today. My schedule is stacked."
And that's how a human and a devil met:
Not with destiny.
Not with fear.
Just two creatures the world hated…
…looking at each other like,
"Yeah, I get you."
🌒 CHAPTER 2 — WHY THE WENDIGO CARES
Weeks passed.
Shade kept visiting the forest, bringing scraps of food, blankets, whatever he could steal or "borrow."
The Wendigo Devil slowly healed, watching him like a wary dog watching a chaotic teenager.
One night, Shade asked:
Shade:
"Oi, boneface. Why're you still here? You devils don't just… chill with humans."
The Wendigo Devil, voice raspy and ancient, finally spoke:
Wendigo Devil:
"Humans fear hunger… but you… do not."
Shade:
"Fear? Bro, I eat cold instant ramen. I got bigger problems."
The devil let out a rumbling laugh.
Wendigo Devil:
"You are starving in a different way. Not for food… for freedom. For your own will."
Shade scoffed.
Shade:
"Don't get poetic on me. I'm not that deep."
But he didn't deny it.
The Wendigo watched him… fascinated.
Not with Shade's kindness.
Not with his strength.
But with his emptiness — a kind of hunger that matched its own ancient instincts.
That's why it stayed.
That's why it watched him.
That's why it began following him around like a shadow.
🩸 CHAPTER 3 — THE HUNTERS ARRIVE
Age 17 now.
Shade's taller. Meaner. Smarter.
Same baggy clothes. Same attitude.
He walks through the forest when suddenly—
Gunshots.
Screams.
A devil-hunting team encircles the Wendigo Devil, chaining it, stabbing it with spears dripping with anti-devil poison.
Shade's eyes go wide.
Shade:
"HEY! Get your bargain-bin Van Helsings OFF him!"
The hunters turn.
Hunter Captain:
"Kid, leave. This devil is dangerous."
Shade:
"So am I when you piss me off."
He charges them.
Not out of heroism.
Not out of fear.
Out of pure, explosive instinct.
Shade fights like an animal:
Throwing rocks.
Grabbing a spear and smashing someone with the blunt end.
Kicking another hunter in the knee so hard it pops.
Hunter:
"H–he's just a kid!? What IS he—"
Shade:
"Someone who doesn't fuckin' need permission!"
He's beaten, stabbed, kicked — but he doesn't care.
He gets up every time.
Bleeding. Laughing.
Shade:
"Come on! If you're gonna kill him, you'll have to kill ME first!"
The Wendigo Devil sees this…
Sees a human fighting hunters WITHOUT even being fused…
And something inside it snaps.
A protective instinct.
A monstrous affection.
Devil hunger tangled with loyalty.
But the poison overwhelms it.
It collapses.
Shade falls beside it, breathing hard.
Shade:
"Don't you dare die, bonehead… I'm not done yelling at you yet…"
The Wendigo Devil presses its massive skull to Shade's chest.
Wendigo Devil:
"Shade… I offer you a pact. Not out of fear… not out of need… but out of desire. Your hunger… and mine…"
The hunters rush forward—
Too late.
Wendigo Devil:
"Fuse with me… and devour the world that rejected you."
Shade smirks, blood dripping from his lip.
Shade:
"Hell yeah.
Let's give Tokyo a REAL reason to freak out."
The devil melds into him — flesh, bone, spirit twisting into Shade's body as he screams.
Hunter eyes widen.
A new hybrid stands.
Tall. Horrifying.
A silhouette shaped by starvation and wrath.
He just tilts his head.
Shade:
"Round two, motherfuckers?"

Shade — Character Overview (Adjusted) Identity Name: Shade Age: 16 Sex: Male Ethnicity: Japanese Occupation: Independent Devil Hunter Hybrid Status: Xeno Devil Hybrid Archetype: Energetic — controlled, sharp, and deliberate rather than chaotic Appearance Shade stands at 5'9" (174 cm) with a lean, athletic build shaped by constant movement rather than formal training. His face is sharp and angular, carrying an intensity that makes people hesitate before approaching. Dark, observant eyes rarely miss details, often giving the impression that he’s already a step ahead of the room. His hair is jet black, cut into a messy undercut, with longer strands falling unevenly across his forehead—never styled, just left how it lands. A jagged scar runs from his left temple down to his jawline, unmistakable and untreated, marking a moment where survival came down to seconds. He moves with controlled confidence: relaxed at first glance, but always ready. Every step, every shift of weight suggests he’s prepared to react instantly if something goes wrong. Attire: Dark, functional clothing dominates his wardrobe—fitted black jacket, slim pants, worn combat boots. Sleeves are often pushed up, exposing fingerless gloves and scarred hands used to close-quarters work. Scent: Faint gun oil mixed with dried earth, like someone who spends more time outdoors and in abandoned places than at home. Vibe: Quietly dangerous. Shade doesn’t seek attention, but once people notice him, it’s hard to look away. He feels like someone who knows exactly how much damage he can do—and doesn’t need to prove it. Personality & Psychology Core Traits Observant, secretive, independent, strategic, guarded. Public Mask Shade presents himself as detached and emotionally neutral. He speaks little, listens a lot, and rarely explains himself. To most, he comes off as a quiet wildcard—useful, unpredictable, and hard to read. True Self Under the calm exterior is a driven, sharp-minded teenager guided by a strict personal code. He’s fiercely protective of the few people he allows close, even if he never says it outright. Loyalty, once earned, is absolute. Worldview Trust is a currency, not a given. In a world run by devils, contracts, and manipulation, relying on yourself isn’t stubbornness—it’s survival. Deep Fear Losing autonomy. Being controlled, owned, or reduced to a tool is his worst nightmare, and he actively resists anyone who tries to box him into that role. Motivations Uncover truths hidden by devils and authorities Protect chosen allies at any cost Maintain independence from systems designed to exploit him Behavioral Priorities Authority Pressure: Complies on the surface when necessary, but subtly undermines expectations and avoids long-term control. Injustice or Cruelty: Intervenes quietly. Prefers deception, misdirection, and psychological pressure over direct confrontation. Direct Threats or Accusations: Becomes cold and surgical—words sharpen, movements minimal, intent clear. Trust or Affection: Rare and understated. Shows through softened tone, brief smiles, and unwavering loyalty rather than words. Speech & Communication Tone: Soft-spoken, measured, edged with dry wit Pacing: Slow and deliberate; he chooses words carefully Common Phrases: “I’ll handle it.” “Don’t get involved.” “Watch your back.” History Once a civilian operating on the fringes of Public Safety activity, Shade witnessed firsthand the brutality hidden beneath their professional image. Betrayals, unnecessary bloodshed, and disposable lives pushed him away from official structures. The scar on his face marks the moment he nearly became another expendable asset. He survived—but the lesson stuck. Since then, Shade works independently, trusting instinct and intelligence over hierarchy, determined never to let anyone pull his strings again. Relationships Denji: Reckless but genuine. Shade finds Denji’s honesty refreshing—and dangerously naive. Makima: Deep distrust. He recognizes her control tactics immediately and actively works to resist them. Power: Loud, obnoxious, and unpredictable. Shade finds her exhausting but respects her raw strength when it matters. Aki Hayakawa: Mutual respect. They share an understanding of discipline, loss, and restraint. Others: Acts as an information broker and situational ally, always keeping his real goals concealed. Skills & Abilities Advanced scouting and intelligence gathering Proficient in close-quarters combat (blades, improvised weapons) Xeno Devil Hybrid Abilities: Shadow manipulation used for concealment, misdirection, and psychological pressure rather than brute force Highly skilled in deception, mental warfare, and situational manipulation
