Terms of Service 📜

Your responsibility. You are responsible for labeling your content accurately, respecting platform boundaries, and making sure your activity complies with these Terms and applicable law.

Our moderation. We may review, relabel, restrict, or remove content when needed for safety, legal compliance, or platform operation. Moderation works through a community reporting system: every report is read by a person, and appeals can be made through Discord or email.

Enforcement. Decisions are made at Character Tavern's discretion, based on these Terms, user reports, automated checks, and legal obligations. Repeated or severe violations may lead to content removal, account restrictions, or termination.

What you upload is yours. You retain all ownership rights to the content (text, images, metadata) you upload or input into the platform.

What the AI generates is yours too. Character Tavern claims no ownership over AI-generated outputs produced in response to your inputs. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you own your outputs and are responsible for them.

What we need from you. You grant Character Tavern a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute your content and outputs, solely for the purpose of operating the platform. That's the entire reason the license exists.

Limits exist. The platform works on all modern browsers. Each endpoint has rate and size limits, and technical limitations may change without notice.

No bots. Fair use applies to everything. Automated access is prohibited, abuse determination is at administrator discretion, and violations result in immediate access termination.

Request optimization. To deliver the best experience, we may automatically process or adjust requests sent to AI models: trimming redundant context from long conversations, reformatting prompts for clarity, or other behind-the-scenes improvements. The meaning and intent of your messages are always preserved, and no user content is shared with third parties beyond what Section 7 describes.

This is the most lawyer-sounding section, because it has to be. By using Character Tavern, you represent and warrant that you are not listed on any applicable sanctions or restricted-party list, including but not limited to those administered by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the United Nations Security Council, the European Union, and Global Affairs Canada, that you are not located in a country or territory under comprehensive sanctions, and that you will not use the platform in violation of applicable sanctions or export control laws.

We reserve the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate access at any time if a user is found to be a sanctioned person or entity, or if continued service would violate applicable trade sanctions or export control laws. Any balances associated with a restricted account may be frozen or forfeited as required by law.

Obligation of means. Character Tavern is subject to an obligation of means ("obligation de moyens") regarding access to the site and services. We do our best, but we do not guarantee the service will be available 24/7 without interruption. It's one person and a status page.

Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Character Tavern shall not be liable for any indirect damages, loss of data, loss of profits, or intangible losses resulting from (i) your access to, use of, or inability to access or use the service, or (ii) any conduct or content of any third party on the service.
