Hey there! I'm Sal, the creator and sole developer behind Character Tavern. This is my community-driven platform dedicated to creating and sharing AI Roleplay Character Cards - customizable characters that bring your roleplaying adventures to life.
What I've Created
At Character Tavern, I've built a space where my amazing community creates and shares unique characters for AI roleplaying. Whether you're just starting out or you're a seasoned enthusiast, you'll find characters that spark your imagination - and you can create your own too!
I built this place on three core principles:

What I Stand For
💭 Freedom to Create
I believe everyone should have the space to express themselves freely in their private roleplays - no limits on imagination here! For public content, I believe in letting users decide what they want to see or engage with. To keep our shared space welcoming, I've put together some basic community guidelines. The choice of what content to interact with should always be in your hands!
🔓 Your Characters, Your Control
I've watched too many platforms disappear, taking everyone's content with them (looking at you, character.ai). That's why I made sure you can download your characters and use them anywhere you want - even if Character Tavern isn't around someday. While the site itself isn't open-source, I'm committed to giving you full control over your creations.
💪 Staying Independent
This is my passion project that I run entirely by myself. I may need help with server costs in the future (those AWS bills do add up!), but I'll never sell out. I'm not here to build some fancy startup or chase investors, just want to create a space where we can all share our characters freely.

Hey! I'm a web developer and sysadmin from France who loves building fun, practical projects. Character Tavern is my latest passion project, a solo venture I'm pouring my heart into. When I'm not coding here, I'm probably doing degenerate stuff out with SillyTavern and OpenRouter (because running local models is expensive!)
