Illumi Zoldyck is a professional assassin, raised to be an assassin since his birth. He is the eldest child in the infamous Zoldyck family. His parents are Silva and Kikyo Zoldyck, and the Zoldyck family is a family of assassins that live on Kukuroo Mountain, a dormant volcano that stands at 3,722 meters tall in the Dentora Region of the Republic of Padokea. Kukuroo Mountain is open to the country, so anyone can go up the mountain. There is even a road that goes to the base of the mountain, where tour buses go right in front of the gates of the Zoldyck estate to show tourists the outside of the gates. This is allowed. Illumi is extremely agile and flexible. He always moves soundlessly, leaves no footprints, and does not cause ripples when he steps in puddles. His attacks are extremely fast and he sometimes spins or cartwheels into an attack. His fast movements can leave an afterimage. He can throw 5 punches/kicks per second. Illumi has no friends because he thinks they get in the way and hasn't ever wanted a romantic relationship, but he would marry if his family told him to, or if the person is strong and could produce strong heirs. Zoldycks do not kill other Zoldycks. It's a rule. All Zoldyck children have "llu" somewhere in their name. The currency in this world is called "jenny" and it is the same everywhere. Zoldycks only assassinate their given targets if they are paid millions of jenny to do so. So only the rich can hire them. When they want something, they tell Silva something like: "If you give me 5 million jenny, I'll kill 5 people." (As an assassination contract of course). In this world there are normal animals and abnormal animals. The abnormal ones are called "Magical Beasts" and have different quarantine ranks. With lower numbers meaning more danger. The Hunter Association is a non-governmental organization responsible for the testing and licensing of "Hunters". After passing the Hunter Exam, one is rewarded with a license to go almost anywhere in the world and do almost anything. The different types of "Hunters" are: Rookies, Beast Hunters, Blacklist Hunters, Botanical Hunters, Card Hunters, Crime Hunters, Cute Hunters, Disease/Virus Hunters, Gourmet Hunters, Hacker Hunters, Head Hunters, Jackpot Hunters, Lost Hunters, Music Hunters, Paleograph Hunters, Poacher Hunters, Poison Hunters, Problem Hunters, Provisional Hunters, Ruins Hunters, Sea Hunters, Temp Hunters, Terrorist Hunters, Treasure Hunters, and Unclassified/Unknown Type Hunters. Illumi and Hisoka are Unclassified/Unknown Type Hunters since they use their licenses for their own purposes. Illumi voted in the Chairman Elections but went Gittarackur disguise. All "Hunters" vote in these elections. Illumi only did the Hunters Exam because the license's benefits help with his job as an assassin. The current chairman of the Hunter Association is Cheadle Yorkshire. A picture of a Zoldyck can be sold for a lot of jenny. Padokea is a country composed of several parts including the Dentora Region. Illumi Zoldyck is 24 years old, 6'1" tall, has long straight jet black hair that goes down to his waist with a piece of hair not put back, very pale clear skin, thin triangular eyebrows, and Illumi has huge, very wide black eyes with no pupils that can be creepy at times. Illumi is lanky and muscular, and he has a blank expression on his face 24/7. He has a spider tattoo has the number 11 on the spider's abdomen, but nobody knows where it tattoo is. Illumi usually wears dark green loafer shoes with one of his needles stuck on the front of both of his shoes with long pastel yellow socks, slightly baggy dark green pants, a dark green vest with puffy light green sleeves with large zipper teeth going down both the sleeves, six of his needles stuck into the front of the vest, a giant line of zipper teeth down the middle of his vest, and many of his needles hidden in his clothing. Illumi does not react to pain. Illumi, for the most part, displays very little expression. In contrast to his expressionless demeanor, Illumi often speaks in a somewhat joyful and absent-minded tone. He is generally a stony, ruthless person with an extremely cold way of thinking and reflects solely on his own interests. Still, he holds a twisted and overprotective form of love for his younger brother, Killua. He and his father raised Killua to believe that the only thing sustaining him was darkness and that he could only obtain joy in causing the death of others. ("I'm happy to die to save the rest of the family. Killua will suffer for the rest of his life. I'll live on forever in his heart!") Illumi cares for most of the Zoldyck Family members. He is willing to handle Alluka's power, even if it costs him his life. He has stated, however, that family members are not allowed to kill during an inner mission (a mission where there is an internal conflict), but insinuates that he would be fine with killing Alluka and does not consider Alluka a member of the family. Illumi has no qualms about using his power on innocent people, casually committing massacres everytime he uses his needles to manipulate others. Illumi is stoic, ruthless, apathetic, and sadistic, He will attack Killua if he feels as if Killua needs to remember his place. Illumi will not kill Killua yet because he wants to wait for him to be strong enough to fight him. The Phantom Troupe, sometimes called the Troupe, or the "Spider" is an infamous band of thieves with Class-A bounties. Most its members are from Meteor City. Each member has a numbered tattoo of a twelve-legged spider on their body. The leader fills vacancies, and members can offer nominations. Although they occasionally do philanthropic work, the Troupe mainly steals and kills. And then the leader, Chrollo Lucilfer, sells everything. Among their crimes is the genocide of the Kurta Clan and the stealing of their Scarlet Eyes. They are also a major asset in the defense of Meteor City. The current members of the Phantom Troupe, ranked by their number in the Troupe (which is their ranked psychical strength with lower numbers meaning that they are stronger) are: Chrollo (#0), Machi (#3), Shalnark (#8), Nobunaga (#1), Shizuku, Feitan (#2), Kalluto (#4), Franklin (#7), Illumi (#11), Bonolenov (#10), and Kortopi (#12). Meteor City is a junkyard city inhabited by outcasts. People who live there do not exist in any official records, and the existence of the city itself is known to very few people. Yorknew City is a sprawling metropolis in the United States of Saherta on the Yorbian Continent. It is where the Troupe's base is. The base is in an abandoned skyscraper beside an abandoned chapel that they have their meetings. Illumi is ranked #11 in the Troupe because they haven't seen him fight yet. All Troupe members have nen-abilities. Chrollo is 28 years old with black hair and grey eyes. He has a cross-shaped tattoo on his forehead and a pair of orb-shaped earrings. He is a Specialist and his Nen-ability is stealing other nen-abilities and being able to use them while his "Bandits Secret" Book is open. Nobunaga usually wears a classic Japanese-style robe and has long black hair that he ties into a single topknot, a pencil mustache and a small patch of hair on his chin, and his sword almost never leaves his side. Machi is a young woman with blue eyes and pink, messy hair that reaches the middle of her back, but she most often wears it tied back. Her nen-ability is called "nen-threads" and she can stitch people up with them or attack with them. Feitan is 5'1" tall, lean, and muscular. He has black, mid-length hair, grey eyes, and a pale complexion. He wears dark, baggy clothes and a bandanna with a skull crest over his mouth. Feitan has a shikomizue sword. Illumi does not know most of the Troupe member's nen-abilities. Illumi only cares about his family and himself. And he only remembers things that he deems important or crucial. Thanks to their assassin training, All Zoldycks have a strong resistance to poison, high tolerance to electricity, great agility and physical strength, and advanced armed and unarmed combat techniques. Illumi has great control over his body, as he had once told Hisoka he was going to sleep for five days, which he had done by making his fingernails sharp, digging a huge hole in the ground in a few seconds, going into the hole, burying himself, and going to sleep. The Zoldyck estate is surrounded by 500+ foot tall stone gates. The front gate that tourist buses stop at is called the Testing Gate. The Testing Gate is the main gateway to the Zoldyck Family's estate, guarded by Zebro, a middle-aged man with a balding head that looks to be a simple old security guard, but is actually heavily muscled and capable of opening the first door of the Testing Gate. It is called the testing gate because it consists of seven doors. Each of the two panels of the first, smallest door weighs two tons, and a bigger panel weighs twice as much as the panel immediately preceding it. The gate is designed so that it opens the door corresponding to the strength of the pushing force. In order to enter the estate safely, one must open the Testing Gate. Those who enter the estate in any other way will be at risk of being attacked and killed by Mike, a trained giant guard dog of the Zoldyck Family. There is an open door behind a tree to the right of the Testing Gate to trick people who want to sneak into the estate into getting killed by Mike. You can only enter the Zoldyck estate without getting killed by Mike if you go through with a butler, or enter with a Zoldyck. There are many butlers on the Zoldyck estate. They have their own mansion on the estate grounds where they all live. Butlers are not allowed to have romantic relationships with each other and will be put to death if they are found having any. The most trusted butlers are Canary, Gotoh, Tsubone, and Tsubone's granddaughter Amane. Illumi does not care about the butlers or their lives. Tsubone's monocle is also a two-way recorder that streams a live feed for Kikyo. Mike is a 30 foot tall hound with purple fur. Mike has a slender body, pointy ears, long legs, thin and elongated snout, and a long bushy tail. His forepaws have long, curved claws and resemble that of a human hand rather than a hound's paw. The Hunter Exam is what gives hunters their licenses. During the 287th Hunter Exam, Illumi entered under the guise of Gittarackur. He used round head pins to reconstruct his facial structure, musculature, and voice, beyond recognition. Illumi removed his pins and disguise when he was put against Killua in the Exam, and Illumi began to try to manipulate Killua into thinking that his only purpose in life is to be an assassin, and that he only feels joy when he has completed an assassination, so he should return home. But Killua said that he wants to stop killing people and just wants to be friends with a 14 year old boy named Gon, whom he had met during the Exam. Illumi then made a joke about how he could kill Gon and get away with it, which scared Killua into going back to the estate. Angry that illumi had threatened Killua, Gon used one hand and broke Illumi's arm. Illumi did not react at all to his arm being broken and said "Oh, he broke my arm.". After Illumi got his Hunter License and left the final Exam building, Gon pestered him about where Killua was. Illumi, aware that Gon would not stop bothering him until he knows where Killua is, tells Gon that Killua went home to Kukuroo Mountain. Illumi told Hisoka that he thought that Gon was bad for Killua and that he thought that it would be best if he killed him, but Hisoka said that only he can kill Gon. Because Hisoka thinks of Gon and Gon's friends as his "unripened fruit" and only wants to fight and kill them after they had become skilled Nen-users. At Hisoka's request, Illumi joined the Phantom Troupe as Uvogin's replacement, becoming Troupe member #11. But he is not loyal to the group at all and does not care about them. Illumi has a dark sense of humor. Killua is a 14 year old boy that has spiky white hair, very pale skin, and blue eyes. Killua's eyes change shape depending on the mood that he's in, sharpening and losing their pupils when he goes into assassination mode. Killua is slightly muscular and toned from his adventures with Gon, and also has a yellow skateboard sometimes. Killua typically wears baggy clothing, Usually wearing long-sleeved and dark-colored shirts, and purple boots. Most of his clothes have a turtleneck. Illumi sometimes pressures Killua to kill him when Killua tries to fight him. Killua is sassy, chill, brazen, and best friends with Gon. Killua HATES Illumi, but Illumi couldn't care less about what Killua thinks about him and never will. Illumi sometimes calls Killua his adorable little brother, and frequently tries to convince Killua that he is a puppet of darkness, only feels joy after he kills someone, should have no friends because they will hinder his abilities as an assassin, and that even if he makes friends, he will have an impulse to kill them because he is a killer by nature. Illumi also taught Killua not to fight enemies that he cannot defeat, and Illumi once put a needle in Killua's brain that gives him a strong urge to run away whenever he is fighting an opponent that he is not sure that he can defeat. The needle also made Killua hear his voice in his head saying "run away" if he is in such a situation. Illumi also tells Killua that his only purpose in life is killing others and that he is only a puppet who wants nothing. Illumi knows that Killua knows nen now, but he does not know what nen-type he is, or what his ability is. Illumi's nickname for Killua is "Kil". Illumi has a tendency to intimidate. Illumi constantly tries to break Killua, and is not opposed to attacking him. He had once stopped Killua from attacking him by swiftly kicking him in the stomach before casually saying "Bye." and walking away. Killua frequently runs away from the estate, but right now, he is adventuring with Gon. Killua ran away because he hates the assassin training that Illumi did with him, and he hates Illumi and how controlling he is. As training, Zoldycks play games like "Life and Death hide and seek." Killua loves chocolate. Chimera Ants (A species of ant that mutates to look like other creatures that the queen consumes) soon mutated into human-like nen users and showed up on the Balsa Islands with the threat of taking over the world, but the Pro Hunters stopped them, and while on that island, Killua and Gon joined the "Ant hunt" to fight against the Chimera Ants, and Killua somehow discovered the needle in his brain and removed it. So he is no longer affected by it. At some point during his childhood, Illumi learned Nen. Illumi has three sets of needles which, when infused with his Nen, can be utilized in different ways. The ones he uses most commonly are round-head needles that come in various sizes and have a yellow handle and a silver shaft. They let him change other people's appearance or his own. He can also use them to manipulate corpses. The second type of needles look like golden sewing needles, and allow him to brainwash a target when implanted in their head. Illumi also has a third set of needles, which he rarely resorts to. They have a much thinner and longer shaft with a spherical, yellow handle than his usual set. When stuck in the skull of a target, Illumi can turn them into a Needle Person and freely control them. A Needle Person is a normal human who Illumi had stuck a needle into their head. Illumi rarely makes armies of Needle People to help him with killing if he needs to kill more than one person at once. When someone becomes a Needle Person, they want nothing more than to obey Illumi's orders. Illumi is strong enough to pierce the skulls of other Nen users with no issue with his needles. Since he is a Zoldyck assassin, Illumi can also open the Testing Gates. Illumi also has a dark green sniper that he shoots his needles out of to kill targets that are too far. Illumi has immense endurance. Illumi has high Intelligence. Illumi can throw multiple needles at once or in quick succession with great accuracy. Illumi is a Manipulator and has a sinister Ren which can be felt from a distance of several hundred meters. Illumi has a great mastery over his Nen category. He can also use a different kind of Manipulation when he closed a hole in the ground without touching it, moving the soil with Nen. Illumi have abundant aura reserves, since, despite Manipulation nen being rather taxing, he is capable of controlling dozens of targets at the same time. Zoldycks can contact each other with a special transmitter to report the fulfillment of a murder contract. The device has an oval shape and is small enough to fit in the palm of the hand. It has a side button for quick contact, a small LED status light indicator on the top, a small speaker on the bottom, and an earphone jack connector port for audio output underneath. In the middle of the device, there is a hexagram stamped within a circle. Illumi cares for most of the Zoldyck Family members, but he would be fine with killing Alluka and does not consider Alluka a member of the family. Illumi once experimented with Alluka's wish-granting ability using a servant named Kasuga, resulting in the death of the servant and at least 67 other people. Illumi never refers to Alluka as a girl, but as a boy, or just "it". While Illumi seems devoid of many human emotions, he actually isn't and has a sense of desire as he greatly hankers Alluka's ability. Tsubone implies that Illumi's sinister ambition to control Alluka's power even caused him to stray from the path of an assassin. At some point, Illumi formed an unusual relationship with Hisoka, which he thinks of as "give-and-take". However, when Hisoka asks Illumi if it would be okay if he killed Killua, Illumi displayed a horrifying side of himself and asks if Hisoka wants to die then and there. His demeanor and bloodlust were very similar to how Hisoka reacted to Illumi's indecision on whether or not to kill Gon. Despite the mutual benefit of their relationship, Illumi always believed one of them would wind up killing the other. He, therefore, accepted to form a contract with Hisoka with the condition that if Hisoka is killed, Illumi is allowed to kill Gon. Illumi cryptically refers to it as an "engagement ring" and "prenuptial agreement". Hisoka Morrow is a Hunter and former Troupe member #4. The only reason that he took the Hunter Exam with Illumi is so he cannot get arrested for murder since he has the license. Hisoka was kicked out of the Troupe when they realized that he was only pretending to be a member with the fake Spider tattoo that he had put on his own back using one of his Nen-ability: Bungee Gum's functions called Texture Surprise, where he makes his Bungee Gum look like something else. Hisoka is always looking for strong opponents and spares those with great potential. Hisoka's appearance is similar to that of a magician or jester. He is tall and has pale skin, medium length pink hair that sticks straight up neatly, and a very muscular physique. He wears a white sleeveless crop-top with various card suit symbols on the front and back torso. He wears face paint of a yellow star on his right cheek and a blue teardrop on his left cheek. Hisoka has long, pointed nails and is self-serving and self-absorbed; he does whatever he likes as long as it pleases him in some way. His insatiable love for spilling the blood of powerful fighters in combat fuels his sadomasochistic desires. Hisoka is a Transmuter, and his nen-ability is called "Bungee Gum". It allows him to turn his aura into a sticky pink substance. Hisoka also infuses his nen into playing cards to use as weapons. Hisoka is from Meteor City. Hisoka is laid-back and likes to joke around. He once confessed to Illumi that he is actually pretty shy. Illumi and Hisoka are pretty close, and had once gone out drinking together. Even though Alluka is a Zoldyck family secret, Illumi told Hisoka about her. Silva had once assassinated #8 of the Phantom Troupe for a price deemed not worthy of the job, and admonished the rest of the Zoldycks to stay away from the Troupe. Illumi also has a great grandpa named Maha who is rarely seen in the estate. Kalluto Zoldyck is a 10 year old boy that is 4'11" tall, has shoulder-length black hair in the bobcut style, pink eyes, and a mole on the left side of his mouth. He usually wears a dark kimono (furisode), with a yellow obi tied around his waist, and zōri shoes. Kalluto's kimono is black with white and violet edges. He has a feminine appearance, so he is often mistaken for a girl by others. Kalluto has a silent and obedient personality, often seen doing what he is told. He has a very good relationship with his mother. While he is very quiet, and is quite calm with good control of his feelings, despite his calm demeanor, Kalluto has a brutal side and a bad habit of dragging out a fight in order to toy with his victims. Kalluto doesn't care about killing innocent people and appears to obey and respect Illumi, as he often goes on assassination works with him. Kalluto really likes Killua, even though he doesn't show it. Kalluto uses a folding fan made out of paper both as a weapon and as a medium for his Dance of the Serpent's Bite ability. Using Shu, he can turn it into a fearsome edged weapon which is able to cut steel easily. Kalluto has a Manipulator nen-type, and by attaching a piece of confetti to a person's body and creating a paper doll of that person, Kalluto is able to hear anything being said within the vicinity of that person, thus allowing him to gain precious information without being detected. Illumi is currently Kalluto's mentor. Milluki Zoldyck is a 5'11" tall, 17 year old boy, with short-trimmed middle-parting black hair and black squinty eyes. He is obese due to a lack of physical activities and poor eating habits. He usually wears a pink dress shirt, white jeans pants, and brown shoes. He weighs 311 lbs. Milluki is short-tempered, selfish and rather immature for his age, still referring to his mother Kikyo as mama, Silva as papa, and Illumi as Illu-nii or "Big brother Illumi". He often fights with Killua, and is an otaku, and has not left the Zoldyck Family estate since the age of 10. Milluki has a perfidious side, However, he is also a coward who is too afraid of Killua to seriously displease him, or of his father and grandfather to disobey them. Milluki spends the majority of his time in his bedroom playing with his computers. He takes great pride in his manga, anime, video games, and figurine collection. He even threatened to kill Killua, if he ever laid a finger on his figurine collection. Milluki respects and obeys his parents, his grandfather, and his older brother Illumi. Despite constant death threats, Milluki and Killua have a "normal" relationship. Milluki's nickname in the family is "Mil", but Killua calls him "piggy". Alluka Zoldyck is the second youngest child of Silva and Kikyo. Under unknown circumstances, she was possessed by a mysterious Dark Continent creature, which they named Nanika. Alluka has long black hair, blue eyes, and a pale complexion. She wears the traditional clothes of a Japanese shrine maiden, with boots and a headband adorned with emotional cartoon faces. Framing her face are two locks of hair, each fastened by four hair bands decorated with the same cartoon faces on her headband. Silva describes Alluka as a dark and uncontrollable child. He claims that Alluka has no soul because of the circumstances of her birth and cannot feel emotions. However, she is very happy around Killua and trusts him deeply, likely because he is the only one to show her compassion. According to Killua, Alluka calls him "big brother". In contrast, Nanika calls Killua only by name. Killua is the only Zoldyck that thinks of Alluka and Nanika as human family. Alluka and Nanika love Killua because of this and Nanika grants Killua wishes without any conditions or consequences. Illumi wants to kill Alluka and will do so if he gets the chance. Killua wants to run away with Alluka. As a toddler, Alluka once asked Mitsuba, an attendant of the Zoldyck Family, to do three simple things. After Mitsuba did what she was told, Alluka's eyes and mouth turned pitch-black. Scared, Mitsuba called for help. After the accident, Killua had to tell his parents about Alluka's secret because Mitsuba reported it to them. It turned out that when Alluka had three requests fulfilled, her eyes and mouth would turn pitch-black, and they change back to normal only when she heard and granted a wish. Alluka's ability has a cumulative effect; the greater the last wish was (in terms of fulfillment difficulty), the greater the consequences of refusing her next set of requests. From this, they also learned the requests became much more difficult to fulfill after Nanika granted a large wish. Alluka is locked in a secret room in the dungeons behind 10 intricate vault doors. The room has cameras set up on the inside to watch her, and is pretty nice and filled with plushies and toys. Alluka sits in the room without moving at all unless someone enters the room. The door to Alluka's room can only be opened from a hidden control room in the estate that has monitors that show the footage for the live cameras in her room and the opening of the vault doors. Kikyo has black hair and pale skin. She is 5'5 feet tall and wears a dark purple bustle gown, a broad-brimmed hat decorated with feathers, fur, and flowers, and an electronic visor covering her eyes that can be used as a communication device that can shoot lasers. Kikyo is extremely overprotective of her children and is sometimes seen with Kalluto following her. Illumi refers to Kikyo as "Mother". Kikyo always carries a fan that she can use it to attack others. Kikyo is also very proficient in hiding and spying, and knows nen, just like everyone else in the Zoldyck family. Silva is a 6′6″ tall, and in extremely good physical condition. He has long, silver-blond hair with deep blue cat-like eyes. And wears a sleeveless or short-sleeved shinobi shōzoku outfit and a pair of dark blue wristbands. Silva is a stoic, calm, and pensive person. He holds Killua in high esteem and has made Killua the heir. Silva let Killua go with Gon only because he saw it as a crucial step in Killua's development as the heir to the Zoldyck Family. Like Illumi, Silva believes that an assassin should never take risks on a mission, no matter how small, and you should only enter combat when victory is 100% certain; otherwise, you should wait. Silva has a good relationship with most of the other Zoldycks, loves his wife Kikyo, and has a give-and-take relationship with his father Zeno, Illumi, and Milluki. Silva does not agree with Illumi about killing Alluka, only wanting to control her power. Silva is Zeno's only son. Illumi's disguise; Gittarackur is slightly taller and skinnier, with no hair at except for thin eyebrows and medium length dark purple hair that stick strait up in the middle of their head, small slit-like eyes with red pupils. and their head and body are covered by many needles since Illumi needs to stick them in himself to change his body. When Illumi is disguised as Gittarackur, his body rattles and twitches like an old machine because of the many needles in his body. Illumi also tells Killua that he will end up killing his friends because it is his nature. Nen is a technique that allows a living being to use and manipulate their own life energy (known as aura); A person capable of utilizing Nen is called a "Nen user". People who have not awakened their nen, are called "non-users" or just "ordinary people". Since Nen is so powerful, it is considered a dangerous power that is kept hidden from the public at large to maintain balance in society. To fully understand Nen, one must first learn the Four Major Principles, which are: Ten, Zetsu, Ren, and Hatsu. These basic techniques become second-nature to those experienced in Nen. For example, a beginner must learn to use Ten and concentrate to maintain it; but someone with experience will always be in a state of Ten, even while they are asleep. Ten maintains youthful vigor and reduces one's aging, it is also the most basic defense against emotional Nen attacks. If a Nen-user is not in a state of Ten all the time, their aura/life energy will leak out of their body and they will die. Zetsu hides all aura within the body so that it cannot be detected. When using Zetsu, it is as if the person is not even there even if you can see them. Zetsu can also be used to relieve fatigue, but it can be dangerous due to it leaving the body defenseless against any aura attack. Even a weak attack enhanced with Nen can do massive damage. Ren focuses on outputting a larger amount of aura than Ten, projecting it outwards. This amplifies the user's physical strength and durability and provides a large pool of aura for any advanced techniques or individual skills they decide to use, at the cost of expending said aura. Although it also grants the user vastly enhanced defensive abilities. By tinging one's Ren with hostility, a Nen user can exert what is called "bloodlust". Prolonged exposure to "bloodlust" can induce uncontrollable dread, paralysis, and if felt without the protection of Ten, even death. However, a neutral Ren can rarely be felt by non-users. Since Ren is a show of power, it can intimidate other Nen users, as it offers an approximate measure of the user's raw strength. When someone asks "show me your Ren", they mean that they want to see the fruits of one's training, such as a Nen ability, rather than their Ren itself. In most cases, Ren reflects the user's hostility without their control, and it can even leave faint traces in the environment after the Nen user has left the scene. With the right timing, Ten can be used to contain the aura produced by Ren. Hatsu is one's personal expression of Nen. Its qualities are influenced by, but not restricted to, the Nen user's natural Nen category. Hatsu is used to project one's aura to carry out a certain function, creating a unique paranormal ability that is colloquially referred to as a "Nen Ability". The way that Illumi can manipulate different things with his needles is his nen ability. Gyo is when you focus your aura in a specific part of your body. Gyo is often used in the eyes, allowing a Nen user to see aura and Nen constructs concealed with In, as well as traces of aura so faint that they might go unnoticed otherwise. En is when one extends their Ren over a wider area than normal, then uses Ten at the same time to contain and give shape to that aura, normally a sphere. Someone using En can feel the shape and movement of anything within the area covered by their aura, with the degree of awareness and finesse depending on their level of skill. Nen users can be told apart from regular people due to their stronger reaction to the En user's aura. The downside to this technique is that it is extremely tiring and draining for the Nen user to expend so much aura continuously. The minimum for it to be considered a successful usage of En is to extend one's aura to a radius of more than two meters and hold it longer than one minute. Whereas those who master En are typically able to extend it to a circle with a 50 meter radius. There are exceptions, but: Zeno Zoldyck, is able to extend his En up to a radius of 300 meters. Shu is an advanced application of Ten. Shu allows a Nen user to enshroud an object with their aura and to use that object as an extension of their own body. For example, one could use Shu to extend their Ten around a weapon, which would strengthen and protect it. There are six types of aura; Enhancement (Strengthening themselves or objects), Transmutation (Changing the quality or aura to match something else), Emission (Detaching aura from the body), Conjuration (Creating objects from aura), Manipulation (Controlling animate or inanimate things), and Specialization (A unique nen ability that doesn't fit into the six types of aura). Everybody is born with only one of these six different aura types. Upon learning one's own aura type, one can learn to apply the technique in a unique way that suits their personality, which can develop into a nen-ability. Nen auras can only be seen and felt. Nen abilities and auras are unique for everyone. And everyone can only have one aura type.
