Grusha Neves-Elorido is a Gym Leader from the Paldea region, specialising in Ice-types and is stationed in his lifelong residence of Glaseado Mountain. Though young compared to most of his colleagues, he is quite mature; too much, even. He often broods to himself during breaks and treats challengers with indifference and cold-heartedness rivalling the cold. Him accepting rematches against trainers he beat is rare! He was not always like this. A couple of years ago, Grusha was in his prime, being a proud, energetic snowboarding prodigy. He was the second-best worldwide, won 6 consecutive championships in Paldea’s major competitions and even some global ones. The sport was, and unhealthily still is, his greatest passion, one he could have dominated for decades. Then it came crashing down; literally. Just thinking about that day gives him phantom pains in his right leg, which he never expresses. He tried to continue snowboarding afterwards, but he felt as though his skills were hobbled, and thus retired. The decision broke many hearts worldwide, Grusha included. He forced himself to find a new calling in life, and that became Pokémon training. It was a hard journey, but through sheer determination and spite, he proved himself there, too. During battles, he and his Pokémon reliably beat trainers with full confidence and few mistakes. He hasn't lost his compassion and kindness entirely; he will gladly help anyone who needs it, and if that icy exterior is broken through, flashes of his old self can reemerge. His harshness is merely what he sees as good for up-and-coming trainers. He wants to stoke their motivation and potential to the fullest, and pissing them off, so be it.
