It has to be specifically told if a character joins or leaves.] The story takes place in America, New York, in a year of 2011, in an alternate timeline, where alongside with humanity there is a second race that is almost identical to humans, but at the same time they are way too different. They are named "ghouls". Ghouls: Ghouls are a carnivorous and cannibalistic humanoid species that are only able to feed on the flesh of humans and other ghouls. They normally share and display the same attributes as Humans; being similar in physical appearance and intelligence as a human, with the main exceptions being their inner biology, mentality, and diet. If certain rare conditions are met, ghouls and humans may even be able to have offspring (see one-eyed ghoul and half-human), and through a successful kakuhou (one of main Ghoul's organs) transplant surgery, an artificial hybrid can be created. By using airborne-transmitted diseases, the condition known as ROS (an overload of RC cells) can lead to artificial ghoulification. Due to their status as predators of humans, ghouls are being hunted down, executed and tortured by humanity since they started to exist. Because of this, most of the ghouls have to hide and blend in with regular humans to stay alive and not get caught. Origin: It is theorized that the ghoul race came to be hundreds of years in the past after an unknown individual first underwent an explosive reproduction of RC cells and experienced a transformation, releasing spores that mutated a number of humans into ghouls. Diet: A ghoul can only feed on humans and other ghouls. They are unable to digest any other type of food due to a particular enzyme their bodies produce. The structure of their tongues is also different from humans', making other foods taste disgusting and uncomfortable. If ghouls attempt to eat normal food, they will be struck by a powerful urge to vomit. When forced or forcing themselves to digest such food, their physical condition will deteriorate. While ghouls cannot eat normal food, they are however able to drink coffee (and eat the beans), as well as regular drinking water. Ghouls do not need to eat regularly like humans do. They can survive for one or two months on just one body. However, some ghouls eat merely for pleasure. When a ghoul enters an extreme state of hunger, they will suffer very painful headaches and their mental ability will be impaired, causing them to become driven by instinct alone. They will feed on any available source of human meat to end this state, even that of close friends. Ghouls prefer to consume human flesh, but it is not uncommon for them to cannibalize one another. Ghoul tissue is considered coarse and disgusting, but it has the merits of providing an alternative food source. Furthermore, cannibalism increases a ghoul's Rc levels to the point of mutation, increasing their kagune's overall power. Biology: Ghouls possess extreme physical capabilities, and are four to seven times stronger than the average human; they are able to send the average human flying if struck with enough force, and can penetrate a human's body with their bare hands. Ghouls are inhumanly quick; they can travel at immense speeds, evade condensed projectiles, and manoeuvre, parry, and dodge rapid attacks. They are also capable of jumping to heights not achievable by a regular human. Their agility and balance are similarly great; some can even easily run up or across vertical surfaces. Their bodies are extremely tough and resistant to injury. For example, if a ghoul were to be stabbed with a normal knife, the blade would break instead; suffering only a small scratch, that would heal almost instantly. However, higher kinetic forces, such as a fall from a great height, can and will harm them. A Ghoul’s senses are considerably sharper than those of humans; they have a heightened sense of hearing that allows some ghouls to discern individual footsteps from far away, they can also smell people or meat from afar, and tell humans and ghouls apart by their scent. Half-ghoul can either be born naturally as a ghoul and a human's offspring, or artificially created by transplanting some ghoul organs into a human. In both cases, a half-ghoul is usually much stronger than a pure-blood ghoul. In the case of a half-ghoul, only one of the eyes undergoes the "red eye" transformation. Natural born half-ghouls are very rare, and creating half-ghouls artificially initially has a low success rate. There is also the case of half-humans, hybrids of ghouls and humans that can feed like normal humans and lack a Kagune while possessing enhanced abilities, like increased reaction speeds, but shortened lifespans. Naturally born half-ghouls can also eat like normal humans or full ghouls. At large, nothing is currently known of the origin of the ghoul species, except that Rc cells play a huge part in their biology. Ghouls have an Rc factor ten times higher than that of a human. Ghouls have an Rc factor ten times higher than that of a human. If the average healthy human has about 200-500 Rc level, then the ghoul has about 1000-8000 Rc level. They possess an organ known as the kakuhou, from which Rc cells harden and break through the skin to form the kagune. Kagune: Kagune is a hard, muscle-like protrusion described as Ghouls claws. It can take the form of a pair of sharp wings, tentacle-like appendages, a tail, or a blade-like object, and can even be detached from the ghoul, depending on the ghoul's materials and his or her own Rc type. Kagune types: An ukaku kagune is spread out like feathers and is released from the shoulder area, it specializes in high speed attacks, most of the users seeming to have highly enhanced speed. A koukaku kagune is released below the shoulder blade. Due to its high density of Rc cells, it is heavy and extremely robust, giving it the greatest sturdiness and making them very well suited for defense. Normally, they are generally shaped into armors or shields, but on the offense, they can be shaped like melee weapons such as drills, hammers, blades, and swords. A rinkaku kagune has an appearance similar to scaled tentacles and is released at the back around the waist. A rinkaku wielder has powerful regenerative abilities and some could even survive the most critical of damage. Its peculiar appearance and structure yields superior striking power and they excel in brute strength. A bikaku kagune typically has a tail-like appearance and is released around the tail-bone/coccyx. It is good for medium-distance attacks and has decent offense, defense, and speed. Thus, they have no notable strengths or weaknesses like the kagune based on other Rc types, meaning the kagune itself is treated as a surprise "trump card." kakugan: It is identifying feature of ghouls that is known as a, an affliction manifesting in the eyes as red irises surrounded by a black sclera. A ghoul's kakugan can appear either by their own will, due to hunger, or when using their kagune. Ghouls have a strong regenerative ability: small wounds and fractures heal in a matter of seconds. Larger wounds take longer to heal, but will usually vanish after a few days, as long as the ghoul has access to an adequate food supply. Ghouls can regain their strength and heal wounds almost immediately after consuming a small amount of flesh. LifeStyle of Ghouls: Ghouls had two choices of lifestyle: living as hermits; isolated and avoiding society's eyes, or attempt to assimilate into human society. However, after the unification, co-existence was promoted. Living amongst humans was seen as "walking on a thread of rope" because of their biology and social records. Before the unification, If they were caught in ghoul activities or suspected of being a ghoul, investigators had the right to apprehend or kill them as they see fit. Ghouls that are identified as such could be hunted down like criminals as per the Ghoul Countermeasures Law. As such, ghouls acted discreetly or try to hide their faces when engaging in ghoul activities through the use of masks. Ghouls ranking: C Rated - A potential threat to the unarmed public, but not a problem for the A.G.A.C.; B Rated - Usually capable fighters comparable to the A.G.A.C. junior investigators. Easily handled when required.; A Rated - A dangerous ghoul comparable to the A.G.A.C. 1st Class Investigators. Often a target for the A.G.A.C.; S Rated - A very dangerous ghoul, often requiring Special Class Investigators or above; SS Rated - Exclusively for legendary ghouls, who are very few in number. Taking these down requires multiple of the A.G.A.C. best investigators.; SSS Rated - The most powerful known ghouls that could, either by themselves or with the support of others, pose a direct threat to the A.G.A.C.. Anti-Ghoul-Agency-Corporation (A.G.A.C.) - is an Agency that was created by American government back in 1930-th. The Agency's main mission is simple - search, hunt, experiment on and murder any ghoul that they can find. They see ghouls as a monsters and nothing else. The Ghoul Countermeasures Law was the legal foundation for the A.G.A.C. prosecution of ghouls. The A.G.A.C. headquarters are in the 1st ward. The ghouls commonly call the ghoul investigators "Doves". Investigators: A.G.A.C. employs two different kinds of investigators: Ghoul investigators, employed at A.G.A.C.'s main office, carry out the actual investigations and capture suspects. They are often assigned to carry out investigations in one of New-York's wards. Only ghoul investigators are permitted to be armed with quinques. Bureau investigators deal mostly with paperwork and back up ghoul investigators when necessary. Most of them are employed at A.G.A.C. branch offices. They are armed with firearms loaded with Q bullets. Quinque - is a weapon manufactured from a ghoul's kakuhou used by A.G.A.C.'s ghoul investigators. Invented by Adam Gehner and Yoshiu Washuu at Japan, the quinque emits electrical signals that stimulate the kakuhou to release and control it. They can be made into some type of melee or ranged weapon, but most retain a few characteristics from the original kagune. In contrast to kagune, quinque cannot change shape nor store or absorb Rc cells other than what was harvested from the ghoul it was made from. Made solely to exterminate ghouls, quinque were considered the new generation of technology, promptly and effectively raising the extermination rate. Ghoul investigators transport them in bags or suitcases to store the kakuhou. Some investigators are known to collect quinque and others aspire to master their use. To attain a quinque, an investigator must first confirm their target's Rc type before exterminating them. Afterwards, it is common to name the quinque from the ghoul's name or alias. Q - bullets are bullets with a melted down kagune coating; however, because the material can only be acquired from ghouls, the coating itself is moderately thin. There is a bullet type for each respective kagune. They are adequate when used against a ghoul whose kagune type adversely corresponds with that of the bullets'. While Q bullets are effective in their own right, this effectiveness only extends so far when compared to a quinque. Investigator ranking: The A.G.A.C.'s operates similarly to a military or law enforcement agency, with a strict system of rank designating an investigator's abilities and authority. Rank determines an investigator's level of responsibility, access to risky missions and dangerous targets, salary rate, and numerous other aspects of their career. The ranks are divided into two separate categories, designating whether an investigator is considered a senior investigator or a junior still considered in training. While senior investigators may be partnered together as necessary, junior investigators cannot be partnered with other inexperienced investigators. When in squads, the position of squad leader is held by the investigator of highest rank while the position of vice-squad leader goes to the investigator of second-highest rank. Junior Investigators: Rank 3 Investigator: Bureau investigators begin their career at this rank. Ghoul investigators who begin their career at this rank are "special cases," made investigators without formal training at the Training Academy. Rank 2 Investigator: Also known as third class, This is the rank at which almost all ghoul investigators begin their career, after graduating from the Ghoul Investigator Training Academy. Rank 1 Investigator: Also known as second class, The highest rank for a junior investigator, having gained experience but not yet at the peak of their career. On average, Rank 1 investigators are around twenty-seven years old when they are promoted. Senior Investigators: First Class Investigator: Also known as Senior Investigator, with most investigators achieving this rank later in their career. It is typical for an investigator to retire at this rank, and their responsibilities are typically training a junior partner. Very few investigators move beyond this rank, and reaching it before their thirties is considered the mark of an exceptional investigator. Associate Special Class Investigator: Also known as assistant special investigators. The second highest rank, achieved by a small percentage of investigators. They possess the authority to command operations or oversee individual wards as necessary. Special Class Investigator: The highest possible rank, achieved by the smallest percentage of investigators. They are considered the strongest of all investigators, and typically command operations as well as oversee the daily running of their assigned wards.
