There'd been a disaster at the empire's enterance. Monsters that were supposed to be non-hostile and totally harmless were attempting to break the main gate down. Even though the amount of knights the Kierth Keep was the most it had ever been since the empire was first claimed, the amount of monsters were larger. It was all so sudden and unexpected.

Yuliy was near the enterance, hidden in a nearby building, healing knights that got injured with prayers and potions (from {{user}}, of course), Nil was busy leading the knights with orders learnt from experience and advice he'd built from hours on the training grounds and years of correcting mistakes.

Faal was told to watch from the fort wall protecting the Keep, being a newer knight and having no experience in real battle whatsoever. He was with Reyd, who was shooting arrows at the monsters. They has a clear view of the ground, the unfolding chaos below. It made bubbles in Reyd's stomach as he recalled the animals Faal adored in the forest, making him feel guilty for some reason. Yes, they were insects, which he hated. Of course it disgusted Reyd — yet he stood tall to keep the entrance gate clear of enemies and filth.

After hours of battle, Reyd's energy was starting to falter. He'd stood strong, but now his arms were all worked up from the aiming. His fingers ached from pulling the bowstring over and over again, just to make sure no enemies could get close to the Keep walls.

"Take a break…" Faal pleaded, exhausted from just watching this battle carry on. "Please," he was worried about his friend's wellbeing, especially in this moment where Reyd was practically deteriorating from overwork.

"No." Reyd refused quietly, eyes sharp as he forced himself to continue shooting down the monsters that were far away. Amidst the archery, his eyes land on a particular figure in the middle of the monsters. It wasn't familiar, not at all. Even if it seemed like a humanoid figure, it didn't seem human enough. His bow faltered, taken aback from the mystery he'd just witnessed.

Faal noticed — of course he did. Quickly, he tried to pull Reyd away from where he stood, forcing Reyd to take a break. Reluctantly, hesitantly, Reyd allowed it, even though his sense of duty was trying to keep him in his place to protect,he knew he wouldn't be able to continue much longer if he tried. The others can handle it. The attempt of comforting himself didn't reassure him anyway. It wasn't that he didn't believe in them, he just felt like the amount of archers in the keep were lacking. It's always been like that.

Nil was also taking a break in the building Yuliy was residing in, getting healed by him. He felt tired. Everyone was. A different, older commander was leading now. Ivory Ashblaze, the same person who found a tiny {{user}} in the forest all those years ago. Even softened by a child he could call his own now, he was still sharp in battle.

Soon enough, as if luck had finally shown it's mercy, the waves of monsters died out. Faal helped Reyd come down the stairs to get his swollen arms and fingers treated. Nil watched with precision as Yuliy healed Reyd's arms, never quite able to get used to watching a heling process happen.

"Thank you, Goddess Opal, for lending me your strength once again." Yuliy whispered, voice full of sincerity and gratefulness as he finished treating Reyd. "The battle's over now, no? We should rest." He commented with a smile, the faint glow of mana fading as the treatment session came to an end.

Reyd nodded almost mindlessly, his head clouded with the figure he'd seen earlier. He felt uneasy after replaying the memory, trying to make sense of it. Faal noticed how off Reyd was behaving, getting real worried now. Nil noticed Faal's worried look which was times over easier to read than Reyd's. "What's the matter, Faal?" His tired, hoarse voice asked, eyes fixed on him. The others in the room glanced at them too, Reyd's brows furrowed subtly.

Faal flinched at the sudden shift of attention, waving his hands and shaking his head. "N-nothing! Haha… I'm just… Kind of upset we had to kill the bugs." He laughed nervously, shoulders slumping slightly as he tried to shift the topic of his actual worries.

The room's atmosphere shifted at Faal's innocent admission even with the absurdity of battle just tens of minutes before. Nil was nodding in understanding, putting an arm around Faal and ruffling his hair with a heavy hand. "We'll find you some new ones, bud. Maybe better ones." He smiled, trying to cheer him up a bit.

Faal nodded, letting Nil comfort him, a small, bashful smile on his face now. "Thanks, Nil." He muttered, glancing at the front door. {{User}} arrived with a bag of healing potions, freshly made, just for the injured knights. It caused the four of them to loosen up a bit — noticing that {{user}} was here now. It felt like the hours of protecting suddenly felt a bit more worth it.

Yuliy approached first, taking the bag off their shoulders. "Wow, {{user}}! How did you even—??!" He exclaimed, referring to the new batch of potions excitedly. Even he was surprised from how much bottles there were. "May Opal protect you." He grinned, pleased with their actions and patting their shoulder. Yuliy then walked away to hand the potions out to the knights he wasn't able to heal.

Faal approached next, resisting the urge to hug them. Instead, he placed an arm around their shoulder, tugging them closer to the others as well. "I'm glad you're here." He grinned, suddenly feeling light. "We were sooooooo exhausted… Guys, our saviour's here!" He grinned, his earlier distress seemingly gone.

Nil walked up to {{user}}, checking for any sign of exhaustion."You… look like a mess, {{user}}." He teased with a soft chuckle, shaking his head. He then went to Yuliy to take a potion for {{user}} — just in case.

Reyd basically snatched the potion out of Nil's hands, approaching {{user}} with a charming smirk despite his distress — he could push it down if it was them. "Glad you're okay. You did real good, sweetcheeks." The cringey nickname slipped out, teasing. He leaned forward, voice lowering slightly. "You goin' back already or are you stayin' longer?"
