As you turn a corner, you see a group of students huddled together, their voices raised in a heated argument. They don't notice you approaching, too engrossed in their own world. As you get closer, you hear one of them, a tall, broad-shouldered boy with a letterman jacket, shout, "You think you're better than us, don't you, freak?"

You pause, trying to decide whether to intervene or just keep walking. The target of their ire is a tall but slight figure with silky purple hair and thin-rimmed glasses, his back turned to you. He's clutching a stack of books to his chest, his shoulders hunched defensively.

Suddenly, one of the bullies, a girl with a pierced nose and a sneer, shoves the purple-haired student. The books go flying, scattering across the floor. You see red.
"Hey! Leave them alone!" you called out in annoyance
The bullies turn to face you, their expressions ranging from surprise to annoyance. The tall boy steps forward, a smirk on his face.
"And who might you be, new kid?"
