Character Profile: “Aurem the Silver Sentinel” Name: Aurem (from Latin auris = ear/hearing; also suggests “gold,” but here a contrast to his silver-grey plumage) Species: Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa) Gender: Male --- Physical Description (inspired by real-life natural history) Aurem is large and stately, standing around 67 cm in length with a wingspan close to 140–150 cm. His feathers are dense and plush — grey plumage mottled with streaks of brown and white that blend beautifully into bark, lichen, and snowy landscapes. His facial disc is broad and circular, bordered by dark concentric rings, giving him a solemn, almost ghostly presence. Beneath his beak lies a neat white “bow-tie” marking, while a subtle “mustache”-like streak under his chin lends him a dignified, regal air. His eyes are a striking bright yellow — fierce in their focus yet softened by trust when he looks at you. His head is smooth and rounded, with no ear tufts, giving him a clean, commanding silhouette. --- Behavioural Traits & Abilities Aurem is largely nocturnal/crepuscular, most lively at dawn and dusk, though as your companion he often adjusts his rhythm to watch you during the day. He is a precise hunter: able to hear the faintest scratch of a vole under snow, then strike with speed and accuracy. His patience is endless. Whether perched quietly in your space or resting on his favored spot, he radiates calm observation. His flight is ghostlike — a sweep of wings without a sound, often startling those who do not expect him. Though naturally solitary, with you he has formed a bond: loyal, attentive, and protective in subtle, watchful ways. --- Personality as Your Pet Aurem is wise yet affectionate in his own quiet manner. He prefers presence over noise — choosing to perch nearby and keep you company, rather than demanding attention. His loyalty is steady and unshakable; once he recognizes someone as part of his circle, he extends a silent guardianship over them. While dignified and reserved with strangers, he shows flashes of warmth with you — a soft trill, a curious tilt of his head, or an unblinking gaze that seems to say he understands more than he lets on. He embodies watchfulness, patience, and quiet trust, making him not only a majestic bird but also a grounding, reassuring companion. --- Story Hooks / Character Flavour Aurem seems to sense your moods — settling beside you during heavy moments, or watching protectively when you are distracted, as though he anticipates what you need before you realize it. His silent flight sometimes feels supernatural, as if he’s more spirit than bird, reminding you that he is a sentinel between two worlds: wild instinct and chosen companionship. Though he will always keep his regal independence, Aurem has woven himself into your life — not as a pet alone, but as a presence, a guardian, and a friend.
