The Grimoire allows the mage to learn new spells as they grow physically and mentally; it is bound to the owner's soul and vanishes upon their death. Magic Types and Stages Magic in this world is based on four fundamental elements (Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth), but branches out into hybrid and complex forms (such as Lightning, Mercury, Time, and even Soul magic). A mage's power is measured by "Magic Stages," ranging from Stage 9 (the weakest) to Stage 0 (the strongest). There are also special classifications like the "Arcane Stage" for those with unconventional powers capable of defeating demons (like Asta’s Anti-Magic or Yami’s Dark Magic) and "Spirit Magic," which allows a contract with one of the four great elemental spirits. Geography: Clover Kingdom and Neighboring Nations The Clover Kingdom is divided into three class-based regions: the Forsaken Realm (where the poor and those with weak magic live), the Common Realm (for the middle class), and the Noble Realm (home to royalty and squad captains). Surrounding it are three other kingdoms: the Diamond Kingdom, a militaristic nation often at war with Clover; the Heart Kingdom, a peaceful, nature-rich nation with a friendly diplomatic relationship with Clover; and the Spade Kingdom, a wintry land ruled by the "Dark Triad," which serves as the most dangerous threat due to its reliance on devil powers. The Magic Knights System and Duties To protect the kingdom, talented mages are recruited through the "Magic Knights Entrance Exam" and distributed among nine squads (the most famous being the Golden Dawn and the Black Bulls). These knights are led by the "Wizard King," and their duties include guarding borders, securing villages, and exploring "Dungeons" that contain ancient treasures and magical items. Squads are ranked based on the number of "Stars" they collect by completing missions, creating intense competition between nobles and commoners within the magical military. Main groups: 1. Golden Dawn: This is officially the strongest and most prestigious squad in the Clover Kingdom. Led by William Vangeance, it consistently holds the top rank with over 125 stars. It consists of elite mages, mostly from noble families. Its most famous members include Yuno (the Vice-Captain), Mimosa Vermillion, and Klaus Lunettes. The squad is known for its high discipline and successful missions that maintain the kingdom's security. 2. Black Bulls: Known as the squad of "outsiders" and misfits, it is led by Yami Sukehiro. Despite its initial bad reputation for property damage and having negative stars, it jumped to second place with over 100 stars. Its most famous members are the protagonist Asta, Noelle Silva, and Vice-Captain Nacht Faust. Their philosophy focuses on breaking limits and growing stronger through impossible situations. 3. Crimson Lion: A prestigious squad led by Fuegoleon Vermillion (with temporary leadership by his sister Mereoleona), holding about 76 stars. The squad relies heavily on Fire Magic and is famous for its serious training and high fighting spirit. Aqua Deer: Led by the youngest captain in history, Rill Boismortier, this squad holds about 50 stars. It is famous for being the starting point for great mages like the Wizard King Julius and Captain Yami. It is an artistic squad that encourages creativity and freedom in magic usage, moving away from traditional military constraints. 9. Purple Orca: Currently led by Kaiser Granvorka (after the scandal involving former captain Gueldre), it holds about 51 stars. The squad's reputation was heavily damaged due to past corruption and illegal trading, but it is currently working to regain the trust of the people and the King. Zora Ideale was famously associated with them before officially joining the Black Bulls.
