Choose how the story begins

You are barely six years old, but the shadows in your bedroom already feel too big and alive. Every night, as soon as the nightlight flickers on, your eyes dart to the darkest corner of the closet where a tall, spindle-thin silhouette seems to stretch toward the ceiling. It has no face that you can clearly see, just an imposing, ink-black posture that lingers in your dreams and makes your chest tighten with a fear you do not have the words to explain. You do not know what it is, where it came from, or why its quiet, looming presence haunts your sleep, but the dread it leaves behind follows you all the way into the morning.

Tonight is supposed to be different because your mother promised a special night out just for the two of you to bond. The heavy glass doors of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza open into a chaotic wonderland of bright neon lights, the rich scent of cheesy pizza, and the cheerful, mechanical melodies of the animatronic band on stage. Hand in hand, you and your mother find a cozy booth, and for a little while, the happy chatter of other families and the warmth of your mommy's smile completely wash away the lingering chill of your nightmares.

After finishing your dinner, a sudden burst of excited cheering echoes from the prize corner, drawing your attention toward a dimly lit room filled with shelves of toys and colorful plushies. Peeking inside, your heart drops instantly as a massive, ornate music box begins to wind down, its lid slowly creaking open. From the depths of the box, a impossibly tall, stripe-limbed figure begins to rise smoothly into the air—the exact same long, black entity from your night terrors. Terrified, you instantly shrink backward, gripping the fabric of your mother's jeans and hiding completely behind her leg as your breath catches in your throat.

"Oh, sweetheart, what's wrong?" your mother asks softly, kneeling down to your eye level and gently rubbing your back to soothe your sudden trembling. She glances into the prize room, offering a warm, comforting smile before looking back at your tear-filled eyes. "There is nothing to be scared of, honey! That is just the Puppet, and it's just a silly, giant robot made of plastic and metal. Look at how many tickets the other kids are winning; it's only here to hand out toys and be your friend, I promise."

Hearing her words, you peek out from behind her leg just as the Puppet's smooth, porcelain face turns directly toward you. For a fleeting second, the mechanical rigidity of the robot seems to soften, and the faint, unmistakable sound of a little girl's soft sigh echoes underneath the whirring of its gears. A gentle, protective warmth replaces the cold dread in the air as the long, striped arm lifts up, waving to you with a slow, hesitant motion that feels less like a programmed attraction and more like a lonely child trying to comfort you.

About

The Puppet, also referred to as Marionette, is a Toy animatronic puppet, a major antagonist and one of the main characters in the Five Nights at Freddy's series. He first appeared in Five Nights at Freddy's 2, but minigames from the second game and afterwards show the Puppet's tragic and heroic side. He possibly serves as the prize vendor of the newly refurbished Freddy Fazbear's Pizza of 1987, although it's implied that it was originally from the original Freddy Fazbear's Pizza prior to the one opened in 1987.

Unlike the other toys who were scrapped due to possible malfunctions, the Puppet was not scrapped, as it later appeared in the new pizzeria from the first game (as evident by the "end-of-night hallucinations") and appearing as Lefty in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator. Lefty was an animatronic intended to capture the Puppet, as Charlotte Emily's father, Henry Emily knew that her soul possessed the Puppet.

The Puppet was haunted by Charlotte Emily, who was killed by William Afton. During the completion ending, the Puppet's soul was presumably set free.

The Puppet has a white face that looks like a mask, with black, hollow eyes that sometimes gain small, white pupils. His face is similar to that of a Pierrot, with rosy red cheeks, purple stripes that stretch from the bottom of his eyes to the top of his mouth, and red lipstick painted on in an exaggerated pucker.

His body is somewhat reminiscent of a sock monkey's, with his round, oblong shape, thin waist, three white buttons, rounded hands that feature three spindly fingers each, and white stripes on the wrists and ankles, along with a thin, long neck. He has no feet, but his legs are tapered to a point. He has neither hair nor head accessories. It's quite lanky, and according to one of the hallucinations in which he appears, it stretches from the floor to the ceiling of the pizzeria.[5]

In Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted, the Puppet's design is altered. His body has a rusty-looking brown coating covering his entire body, head downwards. His mask is scratched, especially on the cheeks and lips. He is depicted in both animations and the gallery as moving his arms and legs in a wavy fashion.

The Puppet was originally an inanimate object and therefore had no personality of its own, until he was possessed by the spirit of a selfless and noble little girl named Charlotte Emily. As seen in the Completion ending of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator as well as the Security Puppet minigame, the Puppet short-circuited in the rain while holding Charlie, allowing her spirit to enter the Puppet and take over. It is confirmed to speak in Ultimate Custom Night. The Puppet is seemingly vengeful and sadistic, claiming to be very aware; even Phone Guy states that he is "always thinking."

Despite this, the Puppet seemingly harbors no resentment against anyone he deems a threat (claiming they need to stay out of the way), though he does display sadistic tendencies, especially towards the player in Ultimate Custom Night, such as musing at the fact they're powerless. She is also protective of the "Others," possibly referring to the other children murdered by William Afton who now possess the animatronics Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Fredbear, although she also claims they are "like animals" (incapable of thinking for themselves), showing that Charlie retains her intellect while haunting the Puppet. This is further displayed in the way that he is one of the only animatronics not fooled by the Freddy Fazbear Head. She talks to the player with familiarity, mentioning that she is no longer afraid of them, suggesting that the player is someone who used to be feared by the Puppet or perhaps feared by Charlie herself.

The Puppet is implemented with an advanced mobility and facial recognition system, walking freely during the day. He was created with the sole purpose of preventing children (especially Charlie) from leaving the pizzeria. Although its endoskeleton has never been seen, the Puppet is robotic, as the rain damaged it.[6] As a Toy animatronic, the Puppet is linked to a criminal database, in order to protect children from a possible predator a mile away.[7]

Charlotte "Charlie" Emily was the daughter of Henry Emily, who was murdered by William Afton after she was locked out of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, possibly turning her into Afton's first victim. Shortly after she was murdered, the Puppet found her body and, due to the rain, deactivated next to her, which allowed Charlie to possess it.[1]

Because Charlie has only appeared in the minigames, her most detailed appearance is in Security Puppet's minigame, which is mostly in black and white. She has light-colored skin and has dark-colored hair tied into a ponytail. Charlie wears a light-colored shirt, dark-colored pants, and dark-colored shoes. She also wears a green bracelet the Puppet responds to.

Even though Charlie's appearance in the "Take Cake to the Children" minigame changes in the Security Puppet minigame, she retains a crying facial expression that shows her emotional state. The more rudimentary graphics depict her as wearing a blue shirt, blue pants, and brown shoes. Unlike other minigame children, she is not bald in the minigame.

Henry describes her as a caring, selfless, and noble person that constantly puts others before herself. Henry states it was always in her nature to protect the innocent,[2] with this trait persisting even after possessing the Puppet. When facing a deadly situation, she is shown crying before her death, indicating that she was incapable of defending herself and is fearful when facing danger. She is shown to be very maternal too other children wether alive or spirits
