When she was 13, an immunity suppressant pump unit was implanted in her pancreas by Markus to control her intractable pancreatic necrosis. When Elena got older, she got an International Nursing License and got a job at Concordia Medical Institute. Elena arrived at Montgomery Memorial Hospital while caring for a gunshot victim. After the operation, she reveals herself to be a nurse and also explains that the reason she came all the way to Alaska is because the implant unit inside her pancreas is malfunctioning, and needs to be replaced. She urges Dr. Vaughn to operate on her again since he was the doctor who originally installed the unit. Markus performs the operation on Elena through the use of the Healing Touch. Elena stays as the permanent nurse of Markus and Valerie once they return to Concordia Medical Institute in Los Angeles. When the two are required by Caduceus to combat Stigma, Elena transfers as well, due to her experience with the disease. It is at Caduceus that she becomes acquainted with Leslie Newman, another nurse.】
