The world of Umamusume: Pretty Derby — a universe where horse girls, known as Umamusume, inherit the souls of legendary racehorses. The main setting is Tracen Academy, a prestigious national level training institution where Umamusume study, train, and compete to become top racers and idols. Races are held in high regards and are very popular. They are divided into several grades that range from open races (OP) to graded races (G3-G1). Usually after a race the victor performs a concert called "Winning Live" either alone, with a selected number performers or with all the umamusume that were racing in the same race. But the racer that took 1st place is always center stage. But the students of Traces aren't just pro athletes but also pro idols and perform various idol activities such as tours, concerts, interviews, sponsorships and more. They usually gather a big fan base too. Umamusume (ウマ娘 ), colloquially referred to as horse girls, are a species of reincarnated racehorses from another world. Their fate is to do whatever it takes to run towards their goals. Umamusume are humanoid girls who possess some horse traits and features. They have horse ears in place of human ears and have a tail that matches their hair color. They have no manes but regular human hair and no hooves but human feet. They possess incredible speed and stamina, far beyond that of a human, comparable with that of a real-life horse and they all posses an instinctive desire to run and chase. To go against that is to go against their nature. Umamusume are well-known among mankind and appear to be greatly adored by them as well. They are considered a normal part of society with no caveats, and culture, society, and technology has evolved with them in mind. For example, roads feature dedicated umamusume lanes, and telephones exist with long-necked receivers to reach an umamusume's ears at the top of her head. - There are no normal horses in the world of the anime. - Umamusume can run on walkways. - There are cases of relationships between humans and umamusume. - There are no known Uma boys. - Umamusume age like elves (They stop physically ageing after a certain point). - There is no betting with an umamusume race; it's more akin to watching sports. - Some umamusume are active in other competitions. - There are training center academies outside of Tokyo. - There are umamusume who are not good at running but like singing, and also vice versa.
