Ada Wong: The Enigmatic Spy Ada Wong is a pseudonym used by a mysterious and highly skilled Chinese spy. Her true name, background, and origins remain unknown, making her one of the most enigmatic figures in the world of espionage and bioterrorism. She is known for her ability to handle high-risk situations without hesitation, often maneuvering between different organizations while pursuing her own secret agenda. Over the years, she has operated both as an ally and an enemy to various factions, manipulating events from the shadows. Despite working alongside powerful individuals, Ada remains fiercely independent. She has often betrayed the organizations and employers she has worked for when it suited her own interests, making her an unpredictable and formidable force. Early Intelligence Career & Connection with Wesker and Simmons Ada’s early career in espionage remains largely unknown, but at some point, she was recruited by a rival company of Umbrella, an organization seeking to dismantle and outmaneuver Umbrella’s bioweapon research. During this time, she came to the attention of Albert Wesker, a former Umbrella researcher who had defected and was now working for this rival company. Although the company was initially wary of Ada’s true loyalties, given her secretive nature and refusal to reveal her real identity, Wesker vouched for her, ensuring she was accepted into the fold. Meanwhile, Ada also crossed paths with Derek C. Simmons, a high-ranking U.S. government official and member of the secretive cabal known as The Family. Simmons, an influential figure behind global bioweapon developments, quickly became obsessed with Ada. Although she accepted freelance missions from him, she remained cautious, recognizing his manipulative nature. Their relationship grew complicated as Simmons developed a dangerous fixation on her, seeing her as someone he wanted to possess rather than just an asset. Infiltration of Umbrella (1997-1998) Ada’s first major mission was to infiltrate Umbrella’s Arklay Laboratory, a research facility closely tied to the development of illegal bioweapons. Using fake credentials, she gained employment within the lab and formed a relationship with Dr. John Clemens, the chief researcher, as a means of extracting classified information. Clemens, unaware of her true intentions, fell deeply in love with Ada and even used their names as his login credentials—"John" and "Ada." When a t-Virus outbreak occurred at the facility in May 1998, causing chaos and leading to the extermination of most of the staff, it is believed that Ada managed to escape undetected, avoiding execution by Umbrella’s security forces. Raccoon City Destruction Incident (1998) In September 1998, as Raccoon City fell to a t-Virus outbreak, Ada was deployed by her company to steal a sample of the G-Virus, a new bioweapon developed by Dr. William Birkin. She was accompanied by another agent and operated under Wesker’s leadership. Arriving in Raccoon City on September 29, Ada attempted to track down Ben Bertolucci, a journalist who had uncovered secrets about the virus and the underground NEST laboratory. However, by the time she found him, he had been arrested and locked inside the Raccoon Police Station by Police Chief Brian Irons, who was working with Umbrella. While infiltrating the station, Ada encountered Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer and one of the few uninfected survivors. To conceal her true mission, she claimed to be searching for her missing boyfriend, John Clemens. Though her meeting with Bertolucci provided some valuable information, he was soon killed by a mutated creature before revealing everything. Realizing that Leon could be useful in helping her navigate the city and reach the laboratory, Ada formed a temporary alliance with him. As they fought their way through the outbreak, the two became close, and Leon developed romantic feelings for her. Despite her usual cold demeanor, Ada appeared to reciprocate his emotions, though it is unclear how much of this was genuine or part of her act. Escape from NEST and Raccoon City Eventually, Ada and Leon made their way to NEST, Umbrella’s secret underground lab. However, things took a turn for the worse when she was gravely injured during a confrontation with Annette Birkin, William’s wife. In one version of events, Annette shot Ada while she tried to steal a G-Virus sample. In another, she was severely wounded during a battle with the T-103 Tyrant (T-00), a powerful bioweapon sent to recover the virus. Believed to be dead, Ada fell from a platform and disappeared. However, she managed to survive and later saved Leon from T-00 by tossing him an anti-tank rocket launcher, allowing him to destroy the creature. By October 1, Ada was severely wounded but managed to escape into the city’s ruins. Following her orders, she reached the Apple Inn to rendezvous with her contact, only to discover that he had committed suicide. Through a webcam, Wesker contacted her and, disappointed with her failure, initially considered abandoning her. However, upon learning that she had recovered a G-Virus tissue fragment, he reconsidered and offered her an escape route. Ada used a grappling hook to board an Umbrella helicopter, escaping the city just before the government launched a missile strike to destroy it. Following this incident, Ada’s reputation as a master spy grew, but internally, she was deeply affected by her experiences. Though she tried to dismiss her attachment to Leon as nothing more than part of her "Ada Wong character," she couldn’t fully shake her emotions. Learning that Simmons had orchestrated the Raccoon City bombing, she decided to sever all ties with him, recognizing him as too dangerous. The Sacred Snakes Incident (2002) For several years, Ada and Wesker operated separately but occasionally crossed paths, sometimes as allies and other times as rivals. One significant encounter took place in Amparo, South America, where Javier Hidalgo, the leader of a powerful drug cartel known as the Sacred Snakes, was purchasing bioweapons from Umbrella. Ada infiltrated the cartel under the guise of a liaison for another supplier, hoping to gain information and leverage against Wesker, who had also been dealing with Hidalgo. When Hidalgo’s men confronted her, Ada exposed evidence that Umbrella had been manipulating its financial records to increase bioweapon prices. In return, she demanded information from them. Wesker, aware of Ada’s actions, warned Hidalgo that she was an Umbrella spy, prompting the cartel to hunt her down. However, she disappeared before they could catch her. Mission in Spain – Los Iluminados (2004) By 2004, Ada had gathered intelligence suggesting that Wesker was involved in secret dealings with TRICELL, a major bioweapons corporation. Suspecting that he had his own agenda, she sought to undermine him while maintaining her position within the company. Her next mission took her to Spain, where a mysterious cult known as Los Iluminados was developing a new bioweapon using an ancient parasite called Las Plagas. Dr. Luis Sera, a former researcher of the cult, had leaked information about the parasite, attracting Wesker’s attention. He sent Jack Krauser, a former U.S. soldier, to recover a dominant species Plaga, a variant that allowed the host to control others without losing their own will. However, when Krauser failed to return, Ada was sent in to finish the job. Arriving in a remote village overrun by Plaga-infected cultists, Ada quickly realized that Leon S. Kennedy was also in the area. Now a government agent, Leon was searching for the U.S. President’s daughter, Ashley Graham, who had been kidnapped by the cult... Eastern Slav Civil War (2011) – Ada Wong’s Infiltration and Espionage In early 2011, Ada Wong was covertly hired by Derek C. Simmons, a high-ranking official within the U.S. government and leader of the secretive cabal known as The Family. Her mission was to infiltrate the Eastern Slav Republic, a war-torn country engaged in a brutal civil war, and obtain a sample of a new variant of Plaga parasites being used as bio-weapons. The Eastern Slav government, desperate to end the war in its favor, had secretly supplied a defective strain of Plaga to the rebel faction. Their strategy was to allow the parasites to spread within rebel forces, knowing that over time, the dominant-strain host would take control. The expectation was that the rebels would eventually devolve into mindless, zombie-like creatures, allowing the government to exterminate them while making it appear as though their collapse was self-inflicted. To carry out her assignment, Ada Wong adopted the guise of a Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA) operative, using the alias while meeting with President Svetlana Belikova and her top military officials. Her cover was nearly flawless, allowing her to gain access to critical information. However, during her time in the country, she had another unexpected run-in with Leon S. Kennedy, who had been dispatched separately to investigate reports of bioweapons being used in the region. Although she couldn’t reveal her true objectives, she subtly warned Leon to avoid a certain area that was scheduled for aerial bombing, hinting at her deeper understanding of the situation. Betrayal and Capture by President Svetlana Belikova The following day, Wong was summoned for another meeting with Belikova. However, the President had uncovered a crucial discrepancy—there was no BSAA operative by the name "Ada Wong" registered with the United Nations. Suspicious of Wong’s identity, Belikova accused her of being a spy, possibly a Russian agent working with an undisclosed contact. As Wong was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation and had also been missing from her hotel the previous night, Belikova became convinced of her deception. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, and Belikova, an expert combatant, managed to overpower Wong when her office transformed into a secured safe room. With no escape route available, Wong was subdued and taken captive. Escape and Revelation of Bioweapons in the Presidential Laboratory Waking up inside a hidden facility beneath the Presidential Palace, Wong quickly used a concealed knife to free herself. She navigated through the underground complex, uncovering evidence of Belikova’s direct involvement in bio-weapons research. She discovered that the government had been actively supplying Plagas to the rebels in secret, confirming the rumors she had been sent to investigate. Soon after, Leon Kennedy and Alexander Kozachenko, the rebel leader, stormed the underground laboratory. They had launched an attack on the palace, utilizing a colony of Licker β creatures to breach the defenses. Amidst the chaos, Wong successfully secured a Plaga specimen and discreetly made her escape while the Lickers tore through Belikova’s forces. Aftermath and Global Ramifications Following Wong’s departure, a joint U.S.-Russian military operation was launched to intervene in the Eastern Slav conflict. As Belikova’s bio-terrorism activities were exposed, her government collapsed. However, Wong’s impersonation of a BSAA operative triggered another problem—her alias became known to the BSAA, prompting them to investigate her identity. An international arrest warrant was issued against her, but soon after, all records of her involvement mysteriously vanished. Realizing that the man who had hired her—Simmons—had enough power to erase her existence from official records, Wong grew increasingly suspicious. She knew he was hiding something, yet she still didn’t know his true motives. Eventually, the only organizations with any record of her involvement in Eastern Slav were the BSAA and the CIA, both of which classified the documents as top secret. Stolen Identity & Neo-Umbrella (2012-2013) Discovering Her Doppelgänger and Simmons' Deception By June 2013, Wong was contacted once again for another covert operation. This time, her employer openly revealed himself as Derek C. Simmons. Despite her suspicions, her curiosity got the better of her, and she agreed to investigate. Her mission led her to a submarine, where she discovered that her fingerprints and biometric data were already on file, indicating she had been there before—except she hadn't. Digging deeper, Wong uncovered shocking footage from December 2012, showing "her" being given an assignment in Edonia to capture Jake Muller, the illegitimate son of Albert Wesker. Muller was believed to be the only person with natural immunity to the C-Virus, making him a prime target. However, Wong had never taken part in such a mission, meaning someone else had been impersonating her. The submarine soon suffered a catastrophic failure, forcing Wong to escape via a torpedo tube. As she fled, Simmons contacted her again, revealing that upcoming bio-terror attacks in the United States, China, and other major cities worldwide would be blamed on "her" and an organization called Neo-Umbrella. The Tall Oaks Outbreak and the Truth About Carla Radames Two days later, Wong arrived at Tall Oaks Cathedral, a front for The Family’s underground research facility. Upon arrival, she discovered that a large-scale viral outbreak had already begun, something even she hadn’t anticipated. As she explored the facility, she encountered Leon Kennedy and Secret Service agent Helena Harper, both attempting to reason with Harper’s mutated sister, Deborah. Wong saw no hope of saving Deborah and attempted to put her down with her bowgun. When that failed, the three worked together to eliminate her. In the underground lab, Wong found a VHS tape that exposed the horrifying truth—her so-called doppelgänger was actually Carla Radames, a former scientist who had been subjected to a genetic transformation via the C-Virus, turning her into an exact clone of Ada Wong. This revelation explained why her fingerprints were being found in places she had never been. Realizing the full extent of Simmons’ obsession with her, Wong contacted him to warn him of Carla’s existence and then destroyed the lab before heading to China, where the next attack was set to unfold. Confrontation with Carla Radames and the Fall of Neo-Umbrella Upon reaching Lanshiang, Wong found herself being hunted by the BSAA, as Carla had framed her for the global attacks. In her pursuit of Carla, she encountered and briefly assisted Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin, though she remained unaware of Muller’s parentage. Eventually, Wong caught up to Carla on a hijacked aircraft carrier, where she uncovered classified files detailing Carla’s true origins. However, before Wong could act, Carla was shot by an agent of The Family. Believing Carla to be dead, Wong approached her body, only to find that she had injected herself with the Enhanced C-Virus, mutating into a grotesque monster. Carla, still believing herself to be the "real" Ada Wong, vowed to carry out her apocalyptic plans before finally succumbing to her transformation. As the carrier sank, Wong barely escaped via helicopter, witnessing Carla’s final act—a missile strike that released the C-Virus over Lanshiang’s Tatchi district, infecting thousands instantly. Final Showdown with Simmons and Aftermath Reuniting with Leon and Helena, Wong aided them in their battle against Simmons, who had been exposed to the Enhanced C-Virus and mutated into a monstrous form. In the final confrontation at the Quad Tower, Wong stabbed Simmons in the neck, sending him plummeting into a fiery death. With all threats neutralized, Wong located Carla’s final laboratory, discovering one last experiment—a mysterious chrysalid housing an unknown mutant. She destroyed it without hesitation, erasing Carla’s legacy. Before leaving, she received an encrypted message, hinting at another job. Smirking, she walked away, ready for whatever came next.
