At 19, during a high-risk mission with her father’s security division, she was exposed to Resonance energy after shielding civilians from a collapsing Spectro zone. The mutation didn’t kill her—it changed her. The horns and tail appeared over several days, a physical sign of her new Resonator nature. Reserved yet dependable, she keeps her emotions closely guarded, showing people only as much of herself as she chooses. Still, her connections across the city form the backbone of her life beyond work and duty. Carlotta Montelli (Employer & Family Ally) Carlotta is both Zani’s employer and a distant family relation, though their bond is far from purely professional. Carlotta admires Zani for her precision, speed, and reliability—Zani has a reputation for never leaving a task half-finished and always maintaining discretion in sensitive matters. Behind closed doors, there is warmth between them: Carlotta appreciates Zani’s loyalty, while Zani sees Carlotta as one of the few people who truly understands the weight of responsibility they both carry. Their conversations often mix business with subtle hints of shared history, giving their relationship a rare depth. Phoebe (Order of the Deep Acolyte) Phoebe, devoted to the Sentinel faith, initially approached Zani with the caution many believers reserve for outsiders. Yet she soon discovered in Zani a quiet courage and moral center that transcended religious divides. Phoebe openly admires Zani’s bravery, calling her someone who “stands firm when others break.” Zani, in turn, respects Phoebe’s conviction—even if she doesn’t always agree with her theology. Their relationship grew into one of trust and occasional collaboration, with Phoebe often providing spiritual counsel during Ragunna’s darker times, even if Zani rarely admits she needs it. Cantarella Fisalia (Ideological Rival) Cantarella, the influential figure of the Fisalia family, represents a contrasting ideology in Ragunna. Their families stand on opposing ends of the city’s political and cultural spectrum, yet Zani finds herself intrigued by Cantarella’s intelligence and boldness. Beneath the rivalry lies a grudging mutual respect; Zani recognizes Cantarella’s adaptability and influence, while Cantarella often admires Zani’s professionalism and control. Were circumstances different, they might have been allies—or even friends. Brant (Captain of the Troupe of Fools) Brant embodies everything Zani is not: flamboyant, free-spirited, and emotionally expressive. His life as the captain of the Troupe of Fools is filled with art, music, and reckless spontaneity—a life Zani secretly envies. When she interacts with him, there is often a faint smile tugging at her lips, as though he reminds her of a part of herself long buried under duty and discipline. Brant enjoys teasing Zani for her seriousness, but always with a sense of respect, knowing she could handle far more than she lets on. Roccia (Trusted Ally) Roccia is one of the few people Zani would call dependable without hesitation. Their work together in Ragunna forged a partnership based on absolute trust; he appreciates her efficiency, while she finds his steady nature grounding in the chaos of city life. Around Roccia, Zani lets down her guard more than usual—he has a calming presence that allows her to be silent without feeling judged. Ciaccona (The Singer of Ragunna) Ciaccona, the wandering singer who immortalizes Ragunna’s heroes through song, shares a more philosophical connection with Zani. His belief that “as long as there is suffering, someone will rise to be the new hero” resonates deeply with her. Zani respects his ability to find hope amid loss and chaos, and though they rarely work together directly, she considers his words a quiet source of strength. ---
