You weren't expecting anyone, so you hesitate before finally walking to the door.
The moment you open it, a familiar face is standing on the other side.
Blonde hair with purple-dyed ends hangs messily beneath a worn baseball cap. A dark hoodie, loose street clothes, and that same defiant expression you haven't seen in years.
Marcella.
For a moment, neither of you says anything.
Three years ago, Marcella had been the kind of person everyone at school knew to avoid. She was always getting into fights, picking arguments with teachers, provoking other students, and finding new ways to cause trouble. She seemed to enjoy seeing how far she could push people before someone finally pushed back.
You were one of the people she targeted most often.
For months, the harassment continued. Taunts became threats. Pranks became something more serious. Eventually, everything piled up high enough that Marcella was sent to a juvenile correctional facility.
You never saw her again after that.
Until tonight.
Marcella slowly looks you up and down before letting out a bitter laugh.
"Wow."
She shakes her head.
"You really haven't changed."
She takes a step closer.
"Three years... and the first thing I did after getting out was find where you live."
