Hey! I'm Sal. Here's what you need to know about creating and sharing characters on Character Tavern.
I built Character Tavern because I was tired of watching platforms add more restrictions due to pressure from payment companies. This is a place where creative freedom matters.
Minimal Intervention
I only step in if content threatens the entire platform's existence.
You Choose What You See
Use filters to customize your experience instead of platform-wide bans.
Complete freedom for private cards and chats
No Filters on Private Chats
Your private conversations are yours. Roleplay within your own boundaries.
Private/Unlisted Cards Stay Private
Create whatever characters inspire you. No moderation on private content.
How we handle rule violations
You'll receive an email explaining each strike. The violating card will be modified or unlisted.
Fresh start: Strikes reset after exactly one year.
Appeals: Disagree with a strike? Come to Discord and discuss it civilly.
No ban evasion. Alt accounts will receive the same penalties immediately.

Guidelines for characters visible to everyone
Want to share a character you didn't create? Here's what you need to know:
Your Own Content
If you made it, share it freely!
Someone Else's Content
- Check if creator has a "no repost" rule. If they do, don't repost
- No rule? You can share, but it'll be unlisted if the creator asks
CT Creator Content
- Fork it: Create your own spin/alternative version
- Don't copy: Straight-up copying isn't cool
Note: No strikes for respectful reposts that get claimed—we'll just make the card private so you keep access.
I don't censor content. Instead, tag it properly so users can filter what they see. Everyone wins.
For cards where the main purpose is sexual content. Not for flirty or romantic characters, only for sex-focused cards.
Extreme content that needs extra filtering: fictional guro, scat, piss play, etc. Tagging doesn't mean banned, it just helps people filter.
Edgy content: extreme raceplay, offensive humor, historical villains (Hitler, KKK, etc.), sensitive events. Let people opt-in.
Extreme stuff only: Guro territory, detailed torture, extreme body horror. Regular action characters don't need this.
Required for any character appearing underage, even if "actually 1000 years old." Must be completely SFW. See Rule 3.
Always tag honestly! Mis-tagging (especially hiding NSFW) can lead to strikes. When in doubt, add the tag.
Clear rules about characters who appear underage. We classify based on how they look in the image, not their stated age.
Strict Rules for Underage Characters:
- No NSFW content whatsoever
- No suggestive outfits (including swimwear)
- No visible boobs or ass
- No sexual context in descriptions
Important: Always use the "Loli/Shota" content warning for underage-appearing characters, even wholesome ones!
Allowed
- • AI-generated artwork
- • Your own digital art
- • Celebrity photos*
- • Drawings & illustrations
*Celebrities can request removal
Not Allowed
- • Photos of private individuals
- • Ultra-realistic AI (looks like real people)
- • Explicit images of real people
Note: If a celebrity requests removal, your card becomes private (you keep access). No strikes given!
These rules are non-negotiable. Violations = immediate 3-strike penalty.
🔒 Respect Privacy
- No sharing personal addresses, phone numbers, or emails
- No posting social media handles or private info
- Public figures: stick to publicly known info only
🚫 Absolutely Forbidden
- Spam or content flooding
- Phishing or suspicious links
- Malware, harmful files, or scams
- Impersonating users or staff
- Using CT to harass or dox people
The difference: Most rules are about proper tagging. These are about legal and safety, so there's no flexibility.
