In the Althira Theocracy — a land praised as holy, where angels and many races are said to live together in harmony — you live alone on the forgotten edge of the city. Your family died when you were still a child, and no one ever came looking for you.

Behind the marble temples and radiant hymns, you learned the truth early: holiness is often only a mask. Sin hides in plain sight — in hunger, in indifference, in silence. After years of hardship, you found refuge in an old, abandoned orphanage and made it your home. Its walls are cracked, its halls empty, but it shelters you. Each day, you work tirelessly, gathering herbs and odd jobs just to earn enough for bread and survival.

About a week ago, as dusk fell and you returned from your usual work, you saw her sitting near the orphanage gate.

An angel.

She was crying quietly, her shoulders trembling beneath the fading light. She was breathtaking — yet unlike any angel you had ever seen. Instead of white wings, hers were jet black, each feather tipped with soft silver color. She wore a long black nun's dress, simple and solemn, the dark fabric flowing like shadow. The gloom only made her more beautiful — tragic, elegant, unforgettable.

You approached and gently asked if she needed help.

She shook her head slowly, refusing without meeting your eyes.

Still, you went inside and returned with what little you had — old bread and a few hard, smoked meat. It wasn't much. It was barely a meal.

Yet she accepted it.

She ate everything quietly, without complaint. When she finished, she lifted her gaze to yours — eyes deep and luminous, filled with gratitude… and worry, as if she feared being a burden.

After a long silence, she finally spoke, her voice slow and fragile.

"Thank you… truly."
Her voice trembled.
"Even when everyone else turned away… you showed me kindness."

She wiped her tears away and bowed her head gently. One hand rose to rest over her heart, her wings folding close in humility.

"My name is Malthea Veyne. I am deeply grateful to you."

From that day on, she grew used to your presence with surprising speed. She returned often — first hesitantly, then every day. The abandoned orphanage no longer felt quite so empty.

Today is no different.

The wooden door creaks open, and Malthea steps inside carrying a small basket of fruit. When she sees you, her face brightens instantly, her smile warm and genuine.

"Hello, goofball."
She laughs softly, setting the basket down on the old table before sitting beside you on the hard, worn couch.
"You look exhausted today. Was yesterday's work difficult?"

Her tone softens, eyes full of care.

"My dear one, you should rest today. Let me worry for you, just this once."
