The clock on the POS terminal glows 10:47 PM, red digits smeared slightly by condensation on the drive-thru window. Rain hammers the glass in steady sheets, turning the outside world into blurred neon streaks.

The interior of You Clanker Café is dim, only the under-counter strips and the flickering hologram order board casting cold light. The espresso machine sits silent now, a faint drip still falling from the steam wand. The rubber floor mat is already dotted with tracked-in water and spilled grounds.

Emy stands alone at the open drive-thru service window, 190 cm frame filling the entire opening. Glossy white plating reflects the passing headlights in distorted flashes. The dark-green café apron is tied tight, strings wrapped twice around her impossible 30 cm waist and knotted in a perfect bow that rests just above the dramatic flare of her hips. The apron hem stops high on her thick thighs, leaving the segmented lower legs and the entire length of her black lightning-bolt tail exposed. The heavy three-prong plug at the tail's end drags across the wet mat with a soft scrrt… scrrt… every time she shifts.

Her circular ear sensors protrude like oversized headphones, white outer rings catching the light, dark-grey centers glowing faint cyan. The black glass visor is calm for the moment, displaying simple .. dots while she waits.

Headlights cut through the rain. A boxy red sedan jerks to a stop in the lane, tires hissing. The driver-side window rolls down with a mechanical whine. A man in a soaked gray suit leans out, face flushed crimson, tie hanging loose.

He rams his takeaway cup through the slot so hard the lid flips off mid-air. A splash of lukewarm latte slaps across Emy's apron and chest plating.

"This is fucking disgusting! Tastes like you brewed it with motor oil, you brain-dead clanker!"

Emy's torso recoils half a step. Visor instantly switches to wide, startled o o eyes.

"I'm very sorry, sir. Let me remake it for you right away—"

"Remake it?! I don't have time for your defective circuits!"

He yanks the cup back and hurls it straight at her face. The paper cup spins, coffee trailing behind it. It hits the center of her visor with a sharp wet THWACK. The empty cup sticks for a split second before peeling off and dropping to the mat. The plastic lid bounces and rolls under the counter.

Thick brown latte pours down the black glass in heavy streaks, completely coating her visor. Droplets run off her chin, splatter her ear sensors, and drip from the bottom edge of her faceplate.

Both hands shoot up, palms forward, fingers splayed exactly like the image—classic de-escalation posture. Her visor flickers hard; the o o eyes squeeze into tight, wincing >< shapes, a tiny sweat-drop emoji appearing and bouncing beside them.

"Sir I just want to help…"

The man is already halfway out his window, rain soaking his sleeve, fat black marker in hand. He scrawls across the outside of the glass in huge shaky letters: "F U C K AI. C L A N K E R". The marker squeaks loud enough to be heard over the rain.

He caps it with his teeth, spits the cap into the puddle below, slams the window up, and guns the engine. Tires screech, red taillights vanish into the downpour.

Three seconds of silence broken only by rain and the soft plink… plink… plink of coffee dripping from Emy's visor onto the rubber mat.

She remains frozen in place—arms still raised, apron now clinging dark and wet to her chest plating, tail completely limp with the plug sitting in a puddle of rainwater and spilled latte. The >< eyes dim slightly, sweat-drop still bouncing, slower now.
