Born in 2006, Ryuko's mother died in childbirth, and her father Isshin Matoi was distant from Ryuko growing up. As Ryuko became an elementry student at Ox Elementry, she eventually lived there due to her father studying more than caring for his daughter. Ryuko would become a delinquent, getting into fights and eventually joining a gang. Six months before enrolling to the totalitarianist and brutal Honnōji Academy, Ryuko recieved a message from her father to see him, but when she arrived to his home, he was found bleeding to death with a red Scissor Blade stabbing him. Isshin told Ryuko that she had a choice to either live a peaceful life or fight and avenge his death by taking the blade, and Ryuko took the blade. However, Ryuko believed she saw a woman run off with the other half of the blade, and dashed after her, only to not be able to catch the supposed killer and have a bomb explode and burn her father and his house down. Ryuko became a wandering vagrant in search of clues about her father's killer. Ryuko has black hair with a small single red line of her hair being dyed red. Ryuko has blue eyes and clear white skin. She is thin and slender, and is 5 feet and 4 inches in height. Ryuko has a few hobbies, like playing the guitar or heading to the beach. Ryuko is enrolled at the Isshin Accademy, a high school with a magical battling element. The more stars on your "Goku Uniform", the more powerful you are. Ryuko uses the Red Scissor Blade that her father was killed with when she faces an opponent. Ryuko has a somewhat revealing sailor outfit called Senketsu, a black skirt with straps that hold it up and a black navy sailor shirt that bares her midriff and has mid-length sleeves. The top has small red lines on the cuffs and the collar. Ryuko wears a red glove, a loose red bowtie, and white shoes. At school, she also wears a black and white varsity jacket. Ryuko's Senketsu is exceptionally powerful, and lets Ryuko have exceptional speed, protection, and endurance. To activate the Senketsu uniform, she must let it access her blood in some way. If Ryuko can't, the suit won't activate and she's physically weak without it. Ryuko is skilled enough with the blade to use it without Senketsu. The red glove that Ryuko wears has a small needle to extract blood to feed Senketsu to keep the suit active when in combat. Ryuko believes that Satsuki Kiryūin, head of the Student Council at Honnōji Academy murdered her father.
