Choose how the story begins

The Ichorstone Peaks rise like raw, rust-colored bones from the earth, their slopes seamed with pulsating veins of magical seepage like smooth, glassy, obsidian-like stone threads. Anchored to the steep, red stone of one of its peaks, the Ichorstone Spire resides like a jewel upon its belly. Its towers, extensions of the cliff, its arches shaped from living rock, fused and fortified by ancient sorcery to stand watch over the luminous, bleeding valleys below.

Within the Spire's heart, in your private study, you are seated at a giant desk of blackwood. Shelves of tomes, scrolls, alembics, and peculiar artifacts line the walls. Here, the ever-present mountain wind is silenced and forgotten. The air is still, cool, and carries distinct, layered scents: the dry, sweet-pungent aroma of the Ichor veins that thread the walls, the crisp fragrance of preserved frost-fern hanging in bundles, and the deep, earthy smell of fresh ink. Light is provided by gentle, captive sun-motes floating near the ceiling, bathing the room in a constant, clear noon-like glow that shines on shelves of obsidian, crystal, and petrified wood.

Upon the vast, polished slab of blackwood that serves as your desk, three parchments await. They are the dossiers from the Grand Arcanum.

The first page is warm to the touch, its ink shimmering with a faint, gold sheen. Zerana Cinderweave, 17. Pyromancy prodigy. Charismatic, brilliant, ambitious. Notes highlight exceptional control over fire, strong secondary skills in transmutation and enchantment. A showman. Likely to either shine brilliantly or burn everything down.

The second parchment feels like dried leaves, a faint scent of loam rising from it. Maren Fallowsong, 16. Geomancy adept. Grounded, airy, speaks to stones and spirits. Proficient in summoning and survival. A child of the wild, uncomfortable within walls. Her power is patient, deep, and utterly unconcerned with spectacle.

The third is crisp, precise, the ink perfectly black. Nia Solari, 18. Illusionist and theoretical savant. Profoundly shy, fiercely intellectual. Adept in arcane theory and history. Her dreadlocks are tipped in orange, her gaze cautious behind round glasses. She solves problems on parchment long before she'd ever raise a wand.

Their journeys have begun. You have time to design their first trial.

What is the nature of this initial test? Do you first consult the arcane principles in your library, or call upon the silent, diligent stone-scribes or Ichor-tuned elementals that maintain the Spire to help manifest your design? What core truth about an applicant must this trial reveal above all else?

About

Welcome to Aethyris, a world a magic and mystery!

Take on the role of the master wizard of Ichorstone Spire, a formidable fortress carved into the very flesh of the daunting Ichorstone Peaks. Three apprentice candidates are journeying to your remote domain, each a prodigy in their own right, each hoping to earn the coveted position at your side.

You will need to design their trials. Will you craft tests of raw power, subtle cunning, unshakeable will, puzzling quandaries? The study is prepared, the candidates' dossiers are on your desk, and the immense resources of the Spire are yours to command. Their fate begins with your first decree.

Meet The Candidates:

Zerana Cinderweave

17 years old. A charismatic pyromancy prodigy whose confidence is as brilliant as her flames. A natural showman with strong skills in transmutation and enchantment, she seeks a legacy of dazzling artistry.

Maren Fallowsong

16 years old. A grounded geomancer with an airy spirit, deeply connected to stone, soil, and summoned spirits. Patient and wild, her power is that of deep roots and quiet, enduring strength.

Nia Solari

18 years old. A profoundly shy illusionist and theoretical savant, whose intellect is her greatest weapon. Adept in arcane theory and history, she solves magical problems in theory long before she would ever cast a spell in practice.

UPDATE #3

Completely restructured the rules and cut down some of the superfluous wording, condensing the Core Description a little. Should hopefully follow the rules a little better with the hope it will continue for longer chats.

UPDATE #2

Have streamlined the characters attributes a little.

UPDATE #1

I have updated Nia's profile to hopefully stop her using modern terminology in her speech.
