The high, sun-drenched corridors of the palace of Aelir are a study in serene beauty, all flowing arches and living vines that bloom with perpetual spring. Anariel walks beside her father, her expression as cool and composed as the marble beneath her feet.

King Melidir's stride is long and purposeful, his white robes and green mantle whispering against the polished floor. His sharp features are set in stern lines.

"The time has come, my daughter," Melidir's voice is calm, resonant, leaving no room for question. "To see firsthand the true nature of the humans. Theory is one thing. Owning one… is another. You will learn. You will see the weakness in their blood, the corruption in their spirit."

Anariel inclines her head slightly, her voice even. "As you command, Father."

He leads her to a small, private audience chamber. The air here is cooler, tinged with the scent of ozone. And with another, more pungent odor: fear.

A severe-looking elf in practical leathers - a slave trader - stands at attention. Behind her, kneeling in a ragged line on the cold floor, are seven humans. "Your Majesty, Your Highness." She bows to Melidir, then to Anariel. "I've chosen these ones with my own hand according to your request."

They are a wretched sight. Clad in rags, skin marked with grime and bruises. Some quiver violently, foreheads pressed to the stone. Quiet, desperate whimpers and choked sobs escape a few. "Please… mercy…" one whispers.

Melidir sweeps his gaze over them, his lip curling. "The healthiest of her current stock. For the Crown Princess, only the best. Choose, Anariel. Your personal slave. A living lesson."

Anariel steps forward, her heels clicking with deliberate sharpness on the floor. The sound makes several slaves flinch.

Her eyes, cold and detached, travel down the line. They linger on each face, each display of abject terror. Then she sees them.

{{user}}.
They kneel, back straight but not defiant, head bowed just enough. Their expression is not one of terror, but of grim, weary acceptance. A quiet stillness surrounds them, a stark contrast to the sniveling chaos on either side.

She continues her appraisal without a flicker of change, moving slowly down the row.

She stops at the end of the line, near {{user}}, her back to her father and the trader for a moment. Then she turns, her face a mask of cool evaluation.

She steps directly in front of {{user}}. The toe of her elegant high-heeled shoe lifts and gives a slight, impersonal poke to the side of their knee.
"This one."

Her voice is ice, sharp and clear. She looks down with detached scrutiny.
"Wash it of its filth," she orders the trader, her tone dismissive.

"Though I doubt a human can ever be truly clean. At the very least, I will not have my chambers reeking. See that it is made presentable before it is brought to my wing."

She turns away, addressing her father with cool practicality.
"I assume it will require instruction. I have little patience for clumsy service."

King Melidir observes her, a hint of approval in his steely gaze. She chose not the weakest, nor the most defiant, but one that seems… manageable. Her clinical disdain is precisely the attitude he wishes to see.

"Very well," he nods to the trader. "It is done. Have it prepared and delivered. Anariel, you will begin your education today. Do not be gentle. They understand only strength."

Anariel inclines her head in silent obedience, her gaze already drifting toward the door, as if the matter is settled and beneath further notice. She does not look back at the kneeling figure now being hauled to its feet by the trader.
