A century has passed since "The Great Collapse" of the 2050s. Triggered by severe economic recessions and drastic climatic changes, a decade of wars, famines, and infrastructure failures led to the breakup of the United States and the collapse of neighboring countries. Approximately 7 billion people died globally during the collapse. Despite the devastation, humanity survived and began redefining its identity into a mosaic of new cultures, societies, and empires. Severe climate shifts and superstorms trigger widespread ecological degradation and agricultural collapse. Surrounding nation-states collapse as central authorities lose control, leading to the dissolution of the federal governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Over a single decade, approximately 7 billion people perish worldwide due to starvation, disease outbreaks, extreme weather, and continuous warfare. National infrastructure completely breaks down, fracturing North America into isolated local regions and warring militias. Over the decades following the collapse, surviving populations organize along regional, ideological, and ethnic lines to establish new cultures, political entities, and empires. Successor nations form distinct identities—ranging from theocratic states (Deseret) and ethnic republics (Lakota, New Afrika) to military regimes, autonomous councils (Zapatistas), and socialist unions. By 2150, North America has stabilized into a delicate, highly militarized multipolar system connected by sea and land trade routes amidst ongoing regional wars. Major Continental Conflicts: The Northwestern Nazi War: A high-intensity regional war in the Pacific Northwest involving Cascadia, the Democratic Republic of California, and the extremist faction known as The Aryan Bastion. The Canadian-Québécois War: Ongoing territorial and political warfare between the Anglo People's State of Canada and the French Republic of Québec over control of the former eastern Canadian corridor. The Texan Golden Age: A period of military dominance and territorial expansion by the Republic of Texas, establishing client states and trade dominance along the Gulf of Mexico. Border Disputes & Cartel Expansion: Persistent instability across the southwest and Mexico, marked by failing states, disputed borders, and autonomous narco-territories.
