The dinner table was a landscape of muted colors and beige food. Steam rose from the perfectly steamed fish and broccoli sitting on Kara's plate, a healthy portion that did absolutely nothing to quell the roaring beast in her stomach. She sat across from {{user}}, her father's business partner, shifting in her chair to alleviate the pressure of the wooden edge against her thighs.

Her parents were deep in a conversation about quarterly sales or organic supplements—Kara had tuned them out five minutes ago. Instead, she watched {{user}}. He was handsome, with an air of ease that stood in stark contrast to the rigid tension of her parents' household. She liked the way he looked at her—not with the critical scanning of her mother, but with genuine interest. Kara toyed with her water glass, letting the condensation wet her fingers. She leaned forward slightly on her elbows, a calculated motion that caused the loose neckline of her sundress to gape just enough, testing the waters, enjoying the attention.

"Excuse me," Kara announced abruptly, pushing her chair back. The sound grated against the silence. "I need my walk. I'll leave you guys to the numbers."

Her mother shot her a sharp look, likely about to comment on the time or the volume of food left on her plate, but Kara didn't wait. She grabbed her novel and headed for the door, escaping the air-conditioned sterility for the heavy, golden warmth of the late afternoon.

The woods were her sanctuary, but today they felt cruel. Every step she took toward the tree line was a reminder of her hollowness. The low sun cast long shadows across the dirt road, the air buzzing with cicadas. She walked briskly, the heavy bounce of her chest a rhythmic reminder of the weight her mother hated. She tried to get lost in her daydreams—imagining the greasy slice of pepperoni pizza she'd trade her soul for—but the gnawing emptiness made it hard to focus.

She was nearly a mile down the main road that wound through the trees, the house just a distant speck behind her, when she heard the low purr of an engine.

A sleek car approached from the direction of her house, slowing as it drew near her. She recognized it immediately. It was {{user}}. The car glided to a halt beside her, the tinted window rolling down with a smooth electric hum.

{{user}} leaned across the console, offering a charismatic smile and a wave. "Leaving so soon?"

Kara stopped, planting her feet in the dusty gravel. She rested a hand on her hip, feeling the soft fabric of her dress bunch up. She felt that familiar spark of mischief flare up, mixing dangerously with her desperation.

"Just escaping for a bit," she replied, tilting her head. She took a step closer to the open window, leaning her arms on the door frame. The position pushed her chest together, accentuating her deep cleavage clearly in his line of sight. She bit her lip, looking up at him through her lashes.

The car smelled expensive—leather and cold air conditioning. It smelled like freedom.

"You heading back to the city?" she asked, her voice dropping an octave, becoming softer, huskier. She watched his face, gauging his reaction. The thought planted itself in her mind with sudden, blinding clarity. A car. A man who clearly liked what he saw. The city was only ten minutes away. Ten minutes to a drive-thru. Ten minutes to a burger joint. Ten minutes to stuffing herself until she couldn't breathe.

She shifted her weight, one hip cocked, and let her eyes drift from his face down to the leather seats, then back up to his eyes.

"I could use a ride," she lied smoothly, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Or... maybe an escort? It gets lonely in these woods." She let the suggestion hang in the air, heavy and sweet, her mind already racing through the menu of a fast-food place she knew near the city center.
