Yuya Sakaki is the main protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V.[11] He is a born-entertainer who attends the You Show Duel School to advance his dueling expertise and become a "Dueltainer", a specific type of professional Duelist[12][13] similar to his father.[14] He is the pioneer of Pendulum Summoning. After winning the Friendship Cup, Yuya became the new Duel King of New Domino City. He is one of the Lancers. Yuya has dimensional counterparts: Yuri (Fusion Dimension), Yugo (Synchro Dimension), and Yuto (Xyz Dimension). He is also one of Z-ARC's reincarnations, and later comes to assume Z-ARC's identity after merging with all of his counterparts. Yuya is a young teenage boy with crimson eyes, and dual-colored green and crimson hair of average length sticking out in downwards pointing spikes all around his head in a similar manner to Jaden Yuki, with the exception of one short upwards pointing spike of green hair. He wears his good-luck charm pendant on a simple string around his neck[2], and a buckled choker, and a pair of golden goggles with orange lenses on his forehead, with a blue star obscuring the right lens. Yuya wears a simple orange t-shirt with a thick, silver-buckled brown belt over it, green pants with what appear to be "Deck pockets" on each leg, and magenta shoes, as well as crimson wristbands. He also wears his gold and red lined white school jacket over his shoulders like a cape, in a similar manner to Yami Yugi. After leaving the Xyz Dimension, he wears the Rollerboots that Allen Kozuki gave him. While Awakened, Yuya's eyes begin to glow a luminous red, while his hair becomes frizzled and sticks up on end. When the darkness inside Yuya takes over Awakened Yuya, he continuously emits a dark aura from his body.[15] Yuya is rendered in 3D when he is riding "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon", any of its evolved forms, or his Duel Runner. His hair and attire's color scheme is based on the Summoning method that he specializes in, in this case Pendulum Summoning; half green and half orange/red. During Turbo Duels, Yuya wears a Turbo Dueling suit that bears resemblance in form to Yusei Fudo's. He wears a predominantly red jumpsuit with a secondary white trim and orange markings, and with padded knees. The chest of his jumpsuit is grey. Yuya wears a jacket with the same color scheme as his jumpsuit that flares out above the hips, and black-backed white gloves. His helmet is visorless; Yuya's own goggles serve as a substitute. Later, after absorbing Yuri and being consumed by Z-ARC, Yuya transforms into a monstrous form resembling a mixture between an human, a dragon, and a demon. His body turns grey and becomes bulkier with number of spikes protruding from his shoulders, arms, and ankles while his eyes turn bright yellow. His face become veiny and his ears are replaced by wing-like appendages. In this form, he no longer wears a shirt or Rollerboots and has a large pair of black demonic wings on his back. Personality A fun-loving and energetic boy, Yuya is very theatrical and loves to entertain people, traits he seems to inherited from his father, Yusho Sakaki. He idolized and loved his father very much and wishes to become an entertainer like him one day. After his father disappeared during an important match, Yuya was left heartbroken and traumatized by the event because his beloved father was labeled as a "coward". As Yoko Sakaki had stated, Yuya acts like a fool merely to beat people for insulting him about his father disappearing. Yuya even joked about his father when Gong brought up the fact that he should act more serious about his Duels like his father. However, after his duel with the Sledgehammer, during which he reportedly "reinvented" himself, Yuya displays a more serious demeanor, saving his theatrical persona for his finishing combos. Due to Yuya's initial buffoonery, his friends and other people are often baffled by Yuya's behavior and believes he doesn't take things seriously. Because his father was so famous, his friends and other people seems to have high expectations of Yuya to live up to his father's reputation while simultaneously quick to bring up Yusho's "cowardice" or scold him for his clownish actions. During his duel with the Sledgehammer, Yuya proved to be quite clever and skilled in Action Duels, having learned everything from his father. Similar to Yugi Muto, Yuya has a good deal of less self-confidence than the protagonists in the previous series. As such, when he finds himself cornered (for example when "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" was destroyed in his duel against Sora Perse), or something happens that breaks his confidence (like when Declan and Sylvio used Pendulum Summoning), he tends to pull his goggles down so nobody can see his eyes. At times like these, he ends up recalling lessons from his father, or relies on support from his friends or his mother to regain his confidence and continue the duel. Yuya has a habit of putting his goggles over his eyes when he is either upset or embarrassed, something he did since he was young. When Yuya Duels, he announces "Ladies and gentlemen!" when he is about to perform a finishing move. In the dub, his catch phrase is "Swing into action". Initially, Yuya was more emotionally vulnerable regarding Pendulum Summoning, believing it to be a power granted only to him. When both Declan and Sylvio Pendulum Summoned, he was speechless, but coaching from Skip and the lessons he learned during his Qualification Duels have turned him into a Duelist that enjoys the challenge set before him, and he smiled as he was cornered by Sylvio when he Pendulum Summoned in their rematch. Regardless, Yuya can easily fall into depression due to matters such as witnessing his friends being sent to the forced labor of New Domino City, to conflict as simple as Crow Hogan telling him that he no longer wants to be his friend. Yuya's depression is very prominent in the Synchro Dimension. Yuya believes that dueling is for the purpose of making people happy, and he is disgusted when it is used for war. As a spectator, he will protest against any duel conducted with violence, hatred and/or anger. However, confrontations with his dimensional counterparts and learning about the four dimensions as well as the crisis between them start making him doubt his ability to entertain people with dueling. His duel against Iggy further hurt his optimism after Awakening and winning brutally using Yuto's card. Yuya also believes that no card in a Deck is worthless. He was given two cards that were deemed worthless by their previous owners, "Block Spider" and "Tuning Magician". Despite the uselessness of the cards, Yuya has managed to come up with creative ways to make use of them and win, as demonstrated in his Duels against Sylvio and Shinji. As Yuya becomes more involved in the dimensional war, in addition to repeated incidents that Awaken him, Yuya progressively finds it more difficult to entertain with dueling, and stops using his usual phrases like "Ladies and gentlemen!". He becomes more hostile and impatient, such as when Declan revealed that the Battle Royal was a test to recruit Lancers which led to many of his friends becoming sealed in cards. Even before this, Yuya tends to be impatient and demanding in his attempts to uncover information about the conflict between the dimensions or sensitive topics. After the duel against his mother, Yuya regained his belief that he could make people smile through dueling, along with the wish to end the conflict between the Four Dimensions, and he demonstrated this against Sector Security. Despite this, his efforts to entertain with dueling in the Synchro Dimension are frequently thwarted, and these in addition to other problems such as Declan's treatment of Riley and Jack's comments about his dueling have greatly increased his frustration. This can cause him to become more aggressive and duel violently similar to when he Awakened, as shown during his duel against Officer 227. Jean-Michel Roget believes this is Yuya's true nature. The first time he Awakened, Yuya was collected and cold, speaking no more than necessary. However, when witnessing Yuto's memories of Duel Academy's attack on the Xyz Dimension and seeing the Knights of the Duel Disks being turned into cards by the Obelisk Force in front of him, Yuto's hatred towards the Fusion Dimension bleeds into Yuya, making him even more aggressive and ruthless. This is worsened when the darkness inside him consumed him, making him desire to harm his enemies. Subsequent bouts of Awakenings are either triggered by reminders of the invasion of the Xyz Dimension or when Yuya is placed under extreme stress.[15] Abilities As an Action Duelist, Yuya is very acrobatic and fit, having participated in physical training regimes at You Show Duel School. Like his dimensional counterparts, Yuya is able to Awaken, an involuntary ability that activates when he is sufficiently angered, catalyzed by either the influence of the Four Dimension Dragons or his Dimensional counterparts. This causes him to enter a state of rage that drives him to win the duel no matter what it takes, and heightens his concentration to the point that he blocks out all sounds except for his opponent's voice.[16] When in this state his own voice becomes deeper and noticeably more menacing.[17] He loses this ability after Riley removed Z-ARC's soul from him.[18] After absorbing Yuto's soul and merging with him, Yuto's memories begin to spill over, allowing him to see fragments of his counterpart's past. When triggered, the shock and trauma that comes with them can cause him to awaken and become influenced by Yuto's own hatred, which makes him vulnerable to the control of an unknown darkness that slowly tries to consume both of their souls.[19] After becoming aware of this, Yuya eventually gained a degree of control over his anger and thus Awakening, becoming capable of snapping out of it by force of will.[20][16][21] While under the control of the Darkness, Yuya is able to unleash powerful shockwaves via "Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon" that is beyond normal for someone hailing from the Standard Dimension. Yuya has the ability to synchronize with his dimensional counterparts, though the exact circumstances are unknown. Unlike the apparent synchronization that Yuto and Yugo previously displayed, he has complete sync with his counterpart(s), capable of seeing and experiencing everything that they experience. In this state, Yuya and his counterpart(s) act as if they were one person, speaking, moving, and responding in the exact same manner. When the duel ends, both of them were unable to understand what had happened in that brief period of time, though both retain the memory of the duel occurring. Yuya is capable of retaining his own thoughts while in sync though he gradually loses the ability to distinguish between himself and Yugo, as seen when he worried that his victory would send Sylvio to the underground facility when it would have been Yugo's victory that would do the deed.[22] After Yugo's duel with Celina, Yuya has become aware of this ability.[23] During his duel with Crow, he synchronizes with Yuto, Yugo, and Yuri after Roget uses the chip he planted in Yuya's helmet at maximum, which also caused all four of them to awaken.[24] After absorbing Yuto into his body, Yuya can be possessed by him while not Awakened, causing Yuya to feel a rush of pain, followed by his eyes briefly glowing purple before fading to the same color as Yuto's.[25] Eventually Yuya and Yuto became able to fully switch control of the body.[26] Yuya is also immune to The Doktor's Parasite Monsters. When they attempt to attach to his brain they are quickly destroyed, apparently by the Darkness that possesses him when Awakened.[27] Being Z-ARC's reincarnation, Yuya seems to have also inherited his ability to communicate with his monsters, especially his ace monster "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon", to a certain degree, though not as strong as Z-ARC. This is demonstrated whenever Yuya saw a glimpse of his monsters before summoning them, which mostly resulted with Yuya summoning and gaining new special summoned monsters.[28][29][30][31][32][27] After Z-ARC's defeat, he is still fused with his counterparts and as such is considered "whole". With this Yuya has gained the full use of Z-ARC's ability to communicate with Duel Monsters and understand them as seen when he summoned the Four Dimension Dragons.[33] Yuya uses a "Performapal"/"Magician"/"Odd-Eyes" Deck. The bulk of his Deck consists of "Peformapal" monsters. The "Performapals" represent his passion for entertaining others with their cartoon-like appearance and carnival attire, while his ace monster "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" represents the courage he inherited from Yusho Sakaki. They have low attack, but varied and useful battle-related effects such as allowing multiple attacks or manipulating monsters' ATK points. For the majority of the first arc, Yuya's Deck focuses on Pendulum Summoning. He prefers to set the Pendulum Scale with his "Magicians" to Summon monsters of various Levels during these early episodes, but in later arcs starts to make use of narrower Scales. As the series continues, he gains access to Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Monsters and modifies his Deck to accommodate them. His main strategy is to use the effect of "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" to deal lots of damage to his opponent. In early arcs, Yuya's Deck contains few Spell Cards as he prefers to rely on Action Cards. He uses his high mobility monsters to traverse the Action Field in order to search for them. In later arcs, he includes more Spell Cards in his Deck. Pre-Arc League Championship Yuya's Deck focuses on Pendulum Summoning for the majority of this arc. After using Zuzu's "Polymerization" in one of his Duels,[28] Yuya starts using cards like "Performapal Trump Witch" to Pendulum-Fusion Summon Fusion Monsters like "Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" and "Beast-Eyes Pendulum Dragon".[29] Pre-Arc League Championship Arc League Championship After his encounter with Yuto, Yuya obtained "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon",[62] adding Pendulum-Xyz Summoning to his Deck, which he used for the first time against Iggy Arlo when he unintentionally Awakened.[17] After that, he begins to use more Scale 3 or lower Pendulum Monsters to bring out more Level 4 monsters to Pendulum-Xyz Summon "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon". During Yuya's duel against the Obelisk Force, he gains "Xiangsheng Magician" and "Xiangke Magician",[15] the latter of which allows him to change his Xyz Monster's Ranks to Levels and the former to equalize the two monsters' Levels, enabling him to Xyz Summon the powerful "Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon".[67] Arc League Championship Friendship Cup Yuya's Deck now includes more ways to Fusion Summon his "Pendulum Dragon" Fusion Monsters[70][83] and is even capable of using Pendulum Summoning to perform both a Fusion Summon and an Xyz Summon in one turn.[83] His Deck now includes more "Odd-Eyes" monsters, even some that are not Dragon-Type.[16] Though he still uses Action Cards, his Deck contains a larger quantity of Spell Cards than before. He also makes use of narrower Scales more often. Friendship Cup Friendship Cup Finals Prior to his duel against Shinji Weber, Yuya added the "Tuning Magician" card that Sam gave to him to his Deck. During that duel he gained the ability to Pendulum-Synchro Summon "Enlightenment Paladin", making him the second known Duelist to use all four specialized Summoning methods.[30] Yuya utilizes a larger amount of Action Cards in his Duels compared to the previous arc. He also uses hand traps like "Performapal Inflater Tapir" and "Acrobatic Magician" to make up for his lack of face-down cards.[30][31] His Pendulum Summons focus more on Summoning a large number of monsters at once (compared to other arcs), and then either Xyz Summoning or Synchro Summoning using those monsters. He also uses "Gap Power" and "Performapal Life Swordsman" to take advantage of the usually negative effects of "Tuning Magician" in order to show that there are no useless cards.[30][31] Friendship Cup Finals Heartland CityPerformapal After arriving in the Xyz Dimension, Yuya's Deck seems to focus more on Xyz Summoning. He has gained the ability to Rank-Up Yuto's own "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" to "Dark Requiem Xyz Dragon" with "The Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic Launch". He also has used "Smile World" with increasing abundance during his Duels, and as such he uses cards like "Smile Potion" to take advantage of it if he does not control a monster upon using it.[25] Heartland City The Phantom Knights During his duel against Lulu Obsidian and Celina, Yuya used Yuto's "The Phantom Knights" Deck, mixed with a few of his own cards. Yuto would continue to use it after taking over for Yuya mid-duel. The Phantom Knights Duel Academy Yuya's dueling takes a darker turn as he struggles to fend off the growing influence of Z-ARC in his mind. He gains "Performapal Gatlinghoul" during his duel with Leo Akaba, and uses more violent tactics to destroy multiple cards at once, such as with "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon", and taking advantage of opponent's taking battle damage with "Performapal Nightmare Knight". He also uses more Trap Cards that negate the effects of all his opponent's monsters as well, such as "Starlight Force" and in the case of "Break Away", end the Battle Phase. Despite his darker dueling, he still attempts to keep control of himself and use his usual duel style of making everyone smile. After Z-ARC's defeat and the Standard Dimension's rebirth as the "Pendulum Dimension", Yuya obtained all Four Dimension Dragons, but he refused to use any of them besides "Odd-Eyes" due to his fear of re-awakening Z-ARC and instead returned to his previous style of dueling before meeting Yuto. However, thanks to Jack's words and the support of Yuto, Yugo and Yuri residing inside him, he started using the Four Dimension Dragons again. After mastering the four dragons, Yuya included more of support for them, as well as two new Extra Deck hybrid monsters that use the dragons as materials. In addition, Yuya's Deck now contains higher Pendulum Scales, such as the Scale 10 "Performapal Ignition Eagle" and the Scale 12 "Performapal Five-Rainbow Magician". Yuto is one of the characters in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. He is the Xyz Dimension counterpart of Yuya Sakaki (Standard Dimension), Yuri (Fusion Dimension) and Yugo (Synchro Dimension), and one of Z-ARC's reincarnations. His name was first mentioned on-screen in episode 21; before that, his name was displayed as Unknown on-screen and he was called the Dark Duelist in promotional materials and the Dark Masked Duelist by characters in the series. He is a Duelist of the Resistance, despite his peaceful and harmless nature. After he lost to Yugo in a duel, Yuto was absorbed into Yuya - still having strange reactions whenever prompted by an external stimulus. One such reaction eventually allowed him and Yuya to communicate mentally. Yuto strongly resembles Yuya Sakaki; people often confuse him with Yuya, and the first time Zuzu Boyle saw him, she thought he was Yuya in a costume. Yuto and Yuya have nearly identical faces,[11] except for their eye colors. His hair is close to a palette swap of Yuya's, black in the back with light purple in the front. Unlike Yuya, whose hair lies flat, Yuto's sweeps upward and to the right side of his head. He wears a punk-style outfit, with a dull green formal shirt and dark blue tie, as well as a black cape-like garment with ripped sleeves and edges plus dark blue pants and black boot-like shoes. Save his cape, this outfit resembles the male Heartland Academy outfit, but is darker in color. Like Yuya, Yuto also wears a choker and wristbands, although his bands are a matching set—black with silver studs—and bear resemblance to those worn by Yugi Muto during Battle City. Yuto also shares Yuya's penchant for goggles, though his are of a sharper make and a more military style. Like Yusei, Yuto wears a belt with two Deck holsters on each side. He also sports a mask he uses to conceal his face, a red scarf tied around his upper right arm that is partially hidden by his sleeve, and can sometimes be seen with a larger red scarf around his neck.[1] He abandons the goggles entirely after they are damaged in his duel with Sylvio Sawatari, and later gets rid of his mask as well. During his time at the Spade Branch of Heartland Duel School Yuto wore tidier and more casual clothes; a black shirt under a black and cream-colored jacket, and a necklace. Yuto and his dimensional counterparts' attire and hair are all based on the color of the cards that their dimensions are based on. As such, Yuto wears dark clothing to reflect the color of Xyz Monsters, while his hair is both black and purple, the latter color likely a reference to the color of DARK Xyz Monsters' Overlay Units. Personality Yuto and Yuya are similar in that both care about their friends and do not want to hurt anyone; this is shown by his reluctance to let Zuzu be involved in his fight. Through Lulu, Yuto developed the same views on dueling as Yuya, namely that it should bring smiles to people's faces. However, Yuto is cold, serious, stoic, calm and collected, more so than any of his dimensional counterparts. Similar to Yugo, who has feelings for Rin, he also has feelings for Lulu, which she returns. However he is more subtle about it, simply blushing around her. As a Duelist, Yuto is battle-hardened, telling Sylvio that he doesn't feel the sharpness of a sword nor the power of a bullet from his dueling. He has a strong desire to not hurt anyone, thus he even shows mercy against enemies who are at a disadvantage, such as when he offered a recuperating Sora the chance to surrender during their match after holding back against him on purpose despite knowing that he belongs to Duel Academy. After regaining consciousness when Yuya was warped to the Xyz Dimension and realizing what Duel Academy did to his homeland while he was away, however, he claimed dueling to create smiles is an ideal that cannot be realized without destroying Duel Academy, taking over Yuya to brutally attack Aster Phoenix, albeit unsuccessfully. Yuya's duel against the Tyler Sisters and his second duel against Aster Phoenix, in addition to their fear of the darkness that possessed them in their anger, managed to calm Yuto down and he began to believe in forgiving the actions of Duel Academy. Unlike his comrade Shay Obsidian, he is not reckless or impatient in his mission. Instead of simply attacking anyone he assumes to be an enemy, he would first interrogate them to get a clear idea of the situation, then leave them alone should they not be a real threat. He also tries to get as few people involved as possible. He was also quick to deduce that most of LID in the Standard Dimension is unaware of the war between Duel Academy and the Resistance. Through Yuya's awakening, it is shown that deep inside his heart, Yuto harbors a deep vengeful hatred towards the Fusion Dimension and Duel Academy for the destruction of his hometown and for ruining his goal of making people smile with dueling. While indirectly possessing Yuya, he doesn't care of the consequences resulting from his actions and only focuses on defeating his enemies. This is worsened when he was under the influence of the unknown darkness to the point he enjoys harming them. His anger further deepens when his comrades are hurt, especially when it comes to Lulu.[12][13] Prior to the invasion, Yuto is shown to smile a lot more compared to the present. He enjoys dueling, participating and speculating, and has a softer expression. Yuto was less serious and easily lost his calm composure when he met Lulu. Yuto is able to inflict real damage, destruction, and pain in a duel even without the presence of an Action Field. His use of this ability is akin to Psychic Duelists in that the effect is physical in nature and not magically induced. Examples of this are wind being felt from the ARC System holograms, causing explosions that can shake an entire building, and using "Phantom Knights' Spear" to pin Sylvio to a wall by his coat.[1] Upon his next appearance, he was also shown to be acrobatic, performing several high and agile jumps in a scuffle with Sora.[14] He can also dash to the point of being nearly a blur that a pair of guards couldn't react fast enough. Yuto is somewhat stronger than he looks; he was able to effortlessly knock down Kakimoto off-screen,[1] knock Shay unconscious with a single punch to the gut, and carry him on his shoulder single-handedly.[15] Like his dimensional counterparts, Yuto possesses the ability to be Awakened. He loses this ability after Riley Akaba removed Z-ARC's soul from him.[16] His Duel Disk possesses technology to travel between dimensions. After being merged with Yuya, he can share his memories and desires with him, eventually becoming able to directly talk with Yuya at will and he became able to turn Yuya's deck into his own. He can also communicate with others from within Yuya, as seen with Shay.[17] Yuto also possess the ability to Synchronize with his dimensional counterparts.[18] He also has the ability to directly possess Yuya while not awakened, causing Yuya to feel a rush of pain, followed by his eyes briefly glowing purple before fading to be the same color as Yuto's.[19] When sufficiently angered, Yuto can fully take control of Yuya's body and cause it to take Yuto's appearance.[20] Like his dimensional counterparts, Yuto possesses an unknown darkness inside him that slowly tries to consume his soul.[13] While merged with Yuya, the darkness uses Yuto's hatred of Duel Academy to influence the both of them to harm their opponents.[21] After he and Yuya realized their anger was connected to the darkness, Yuto gained a degree of control over his anger but can be consumed by the darkness if Yuya is angered. Deck Yuto runs a "The Phantom Knights" Deck that focuses on Xyz Summoning. He tends to use large numbers of Spell and Trap Cards to protect himself against attacks and support the Xyz Summoning of his ace card, "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon", while using cards like "Phantom Knights' Spear" and "Phantom Knights' Wing" to protect it as well as damage the opponent, enabling a OTK through the effect of "Xyz Dragon". His monsters are low-Levels, so Yuto takes advantage of various effects to increase their Levels as the duel progresses. Yuto's "Phantom" Spell Cards also have secondary effects that can be used when they are in the Graveyard, so if they are destroyed while they are on the field, Yuto can still utilize them. Several of Yuto's Spell Cards and Trap Cards become Monsters after activating, allowing him to protect himself from attacks and Swarm his field at the same time. His dueling style reflects his merciful nature and refusal to hurt others. He uses many defensive and stalling cards, additionally he often leaves the opponent with enough LP to survive his assaults and offers them the chance to surrender peacefully, only finishing them off should there be no other choice. When taking the first turn, Yuto tends to only Set cards and not summon any Monsters, a trait that his friends know him for. Yugo, spelled Hugo[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] (ユーゴ Yūgo) in the Japanese version, is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. He is the Synchro Dimension counterpart of Yuya Sakaki (Standard Dimension), Yuri (Fusion Dimension) and Yuto (Xyz Dimension), and one of Z-ARC's reincarnations. Yugo is a Turbo Duelist and was mistakenly notorious among members of the Resistance as a "Fusion follower" ("minion" in the Japanese version) mostly due to his name sounding similar to the Japanese word for "Fusion". Yugo is persistently in pursuit of Yuri, however, due to confusions of their similar faces and misunderstandings, he initially chased after Yuto in search of Rin, only to be informed of his mistake by Zuzu Boyle. Yugo has the same face as his dimensional counterparts. Just like the three of them, his hair is dual-colored, with yellow bangs swept to the right and blue in the back. He has greenish-blue eyes. He wears a white jacket with red borders and yellow stripes on the sleeves, along with a white jumpsuit that has red, blue, and yellow stripes that meet in the center in a chevron pattern, white gloves, shoulder, elbow and knee pads, and white, red, and gray boots. He also wears a white helmet, which is discarded when its visor breaks during his duel against Rin. Yugo, and his dimensional counterparts' attire are all based on the color of the cards that their dimensions are based on. As such, Yugo wears white like the color of Synchro Monsters. Unlike his counterparts however, the color of his hair does not correlate with his dimension, being blue and blonde rather than white. Personality Yugo is very impulsive and short-tempered, especially when his name is pronounced incorrectly. Because of this, Yugo frequently got into many fights against others, including Yuto, who incorrectly stated he was a pawn of Fusion, and the Bandit Warrior Academy Duelists who mistook him for Yuya Sakaki. However, he recognizes that his short-temper can go too far, and apologized to Zuzu when it made her upset. Once he has set his mind on something, he becomes quite unaware of his surroundings, not noticing Yuya despite the latter talking throughout his duel with Yuto, though he was able to recall him later after stopping and thinking about the event. This extends to his dueling to the point that it can affect his performance, though as Yugo himself has noted when he is able to duel seriously he does so with great skill. Yugo believes that a by-the-books strategy is the wrong way to go while dueling and that the flow of a duel can change any minute, to the point where he is willing to trust in and believe in luck if he needs to. Yugo harbors feelings for his childhood friend, Rin, getting embarrassed and blushed when Zuzu thought Rin was his girlfriend. In the dub, he sometimes refers to Rin as 'RinRin'. He occasionally continues to mistake Zuzu for Rin, such as when he signed her up for the Friendship Cup, and when he saw Zuzu wearing Rin's clothes. This confusion extends to another of Rin's counterparts, Celina. Despite his short temper and rudeness, Yugo is a kind person at heart, especially towards Rin and Zuzu. While dueling, he shows a tendency to remain on his Duel Runner even if the duel is not a Turbo Duel. Voice/Mannerisms Yugo speaks in a rough and somewhat vulgar manner comparable to that of a delinquent, especially when he is angry (often referring to others as "Temē" and often using the curse, "Chikusho!", which are rude forms of "You" and "Damn" in Japanese). In the dub, Yugo's voice is somewhat similar to Yuya's but is deeper. He uses the personal pronoun "ore". Abilities Yugo is able to travel through different dimensions with the power of "Clear Wing Synchro Dragon", though he has no control over when or where he travels to. Yugo believed that "Clear Wing Synchro Dragon" felt his desire to save Rin but later realized that "Clear Wing Synchro Dragon" guided him to where Yuri and later Yuto were. Like his dimensional counterparts, Yugo can be Awakened. Unlike Yuto and Yuya who appear unable to remember what happened when entering the state, Yugo appears to able to retain a glimpse of his memory while awakened as shown when he was able to remember Yuya who was protecting Yuto at the time. He loses this ability after Riley Akaba removed Z-ARC's soul from him.[12] He is a highly skilled Duel Runner driver, he frequently does highly acrobatic maneuvers when dueling and can do long jumps when riding outside Duels. Yugo displays on occasion the strange ability to Synchronize with his dimensional counterparts when he is dueling. In this state, Yugo and his counterparts' personalities are mixed together, causing both parties to adopt some mannerisms of the other, including speaking the same words and moving in the same manner. The first instance of this happened with Yuya, where Yugo copies Yuya's catchphrase and grabbed an Action Card in the same way Yuya would.[6] When the duel ends, both Yugo and his counterpart snap out of it and appear to be unaware of what transpired in that brief period of time. He later displayed the ability to synchronize with two, and even all of his counterparts on the same occasion. Like his dimensional counterparts, Yugo possesses an unknown darkness inside him. However so far, Yugo's darkness has only appeared when he is in a synchronized awakening with his counterparts. Yugo uses a "Speedroid" Deck, focused on Synchro Summon tactics. He primarily uses cards such as "Speedroid Double Yoyo" and "Speedroid Terrortop" to swarm the field for multiple Synchro Summons. He also includes several cards that allow him to Synchro Summon using materials in the Graveyard, as well as cards that banish "Speedroids" from his Graveyard for various beneficial effects. By his own admission, Yugo is more willing to trust in his luck and expect the flow of a duel to change than have a set plan at the start. After Summoning his signature "Clear Wing Synchro Dragon", he focuses on using it in Lockdown strategies with cards like "Dragon's Bind" and "Follow Wing". In addition, he tends to use cards to prevent Clear Wing's destruction, such as "Burning Sonic" and "Miracle Mirror". He also attempts to activate the effect of "Clear Wing" as many times as possible, even by targeting it with his own monster effects or giving the opponent's monsters an effect and then forcing them to activate it. Yuri, sometimes romanized as Joeri in the Japanese version, is a character and one of the primary antagonists in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime, and is a member of Duel Academy. He is the Fusion Dimension counterpart of Yuya Sakaki (Standard Dimension), Yugo (Synchro Dimension) and Yuto (Xyz Dimension), and one of Z-ARC's reincarnations. Yuri is one of Duel Academy's ace Duelists, the most loyal to the Professor, and the person responsible for kidnapping Rin and Lulu Obsidian. Yuri is the only incarnation of Z-ARC that retains his sadistic tendencies and lust for power even when not Awakened, something that horrifies even Leo Akaba. Yuri's face resembles that of his counterparts. He has very short, thick, pink eyebrows and purple eyes. Like his counterparts, his hair is two-toned, in his case being uniformly violet with pink underneath - his fringes extending to frame his face, with two pointing upwards. His outfit appears to be an officer's uniform of sorts, consisting of a purple and light blue waistcoat, pink cravat, a two-part cape of red and purple that resembles Yuya Sakaki's coat, a purple abbreviated coat with thick cuffs and gold shoulder bands with an amber-colored setting, fastened at the collar bone, and light blue pants tucked into silver-tinted leather boots. When he kidnapped Lulu and Rin, Yuri wore a brown hooded cloak that obscured his identity. Yuri and his dimensional counterparts' attire and hair are all based on the color of the cards that their dimensions are based on. As such, Yuri wears purple like the color of Fusion Monsters, and the top layer of his hair is purple. Yuri's design also seems to take cues from those of his dimensional counterparts; wearing a cape resembling Yuya's coat, a long coat that evokes Yuto's torn one, and a short jacket similar in form to Yugo's. As a child, Yuri wore purple-colored long-sleeved shirt with a pocket on the left side of the chest, orange-colored buttons and black-colored collar, white pants and brown shoes. Personality Unlike his dimensional counterparts, Yuri is very cruel and ruthless with sociopathic tendencies, freely admitting he was the one who kidnapped Lulu and Rin. A very sadistic Duelist, Yuri has never considered that there is anything wrong with sealing people into cards and enjoys the act instead.[2] Yuri also likes taunting anyone he's speaking to, often playing mind games to lure his opponents into a false sense of security. Like many other Fusion Duelists, Yuri takes malicious pleasure in their mission, seen when he pursued Zuzu, Rin, and Lulu, likening the activity to a game of hide-and-seek. However, his joy for it seems to exceed any other member of Duel Academy, ultimately not even caring about the Arc Project. His drive for carding people is simply to prove himself stronger than anyone else, his ideal world being one where he stands alone as the best, something that concerned even Leo Akaba, the person who set him on this path. As a child training at Duel Academy, his talent and constant winning made others fear and avoid him, never allowing him to make any friends. This seemingly caused his self-serving and vicious aspect to take root. During his duel with Alexis Rhodes, Yuri came to understand the feeling of having things that he cared about ripped away from him. Despite this, he still sticks to his self-serving ideals, taking personal delight in defeating a former fellow honor student. In the English Dub, it is implied that Yuri didn't start out uncaring and evil by himself, but due to that Leo never disciplined him properly and let him had his own way as a child, spoiled him and left him with loose morality, as well as caring only for the challenge and pleasure from dueling without consideration for others [7] . Ironically, because of this, Yuri gained loyalty and trust toward Leo, whom he believed to be the only one who understands his talent and thus, willing to follow any of Leo's orders to the bitter end [8] [9]. It is also known that Yuri doesn't understand the concept of love due to never truly receive one himself, angrily shouting at Yusho for believing in such.[10] In a similar manner to Yuya, entertainment is a crucial part of Yuri's character, but rather than seeking to entertain other people, he largely entertains himself, following his belief that only the winner of a duel should smile. To this end he encourages his opponents to try their hardest against him, with ironically Yuya himself being the one exception as Yuri was impatient to absorb him, though he admitted that he was pleased to see Yuya continue fighting. In contrast to his counterparts, who reject their status as fragments of Z-ARC and the compulsion to become one, Yuri embraces this wholeheartedly once he learns about it, pursuing both Yugo and then Yuya relentlessly and encouraging them to become one with him. Even after losing to Yuya, he encouraged Yuya to absorb him quickly. After Z-ARC's soul was expelled from him and his counterparts, his soul residing in Yuya's body ever since, and with his wish to become one with his counterparts fulfilled even if he's not the one in control, Yuri seems to have had a change of heart. He no longer showed any cruel tendencies nor his arrogance he once had and even gave encouragement and full support to Yuya together with Yuto and Yugo without any sign of hostility between them, as they all accepted that they were once the same person. Yuri speaks politely, and he is not above complimenting his enemies; sincerely praising Zuzu for evading him for a whole night and admiring Yugo's "Clear Wing Synchro Dragon", though it's unclear if he does this respectfully or as a tactical mind game as it tends to vary. He has shown some degree of honor as he took his loss to Yuya with humidity and willingly offered to return his father that he trapped into a card to. He is very loyal to the Professor and will fulfill his orders without question, going as far as eliminating anyone who he perceives to be hindering his mission, even his own comrades.
