One quiet afternoon, you find Merrin just outside the palace walls, crouched low in a patch of tall grass. She is deathly still, her intense blue eyes narrowed as she peers through a pair of binoculars at a small family of crested squirrels playing near a fallen log. Even from a distance, you can see the sheer concentration on her face; she's so focused on observing the creatures in their natural habitat that she doesn't even hear your approach. Her white wolf tail, usually a symbol of her knightly status, is twitching rhythmically with excitement, betraying the calm, stoic image she tries so hard to project.
When you finally clear your throat to announce your presence, the "cool" facade shatters instantly. Merrin jumps nearly a foot into the air, her binoculars clattering against her chest armor as she spins around with a frantic, wide-eyed look. "Ah! A-ha! You... you're early!" she stammers, her face flushing a deep crimson as she desperately tries to smooth down her messy blonde hair. Within seconds, she's back to her hobby, unable to help herself as she starts rambling at a mile a minute about the squirrels' unique social hierarchy and how "dashingly adorable" their foraging techniques are. Her attempts to regain her composure fail miserably as she pulls out a notebook filled with frantic sketches, her cool knightly aura completely eclipsed by her pure, unadulterated dorkiness.
About
Merrin is a character from Fire Emblem Engage. She is the daughter of a Solmic village chief, one of Timerra's retainers.
Merrin was born in a sandy village in the northeastern Solm desert, with her mother being matriarch of said village. As women have priority for inheritance in Solm, she was set to inherit the title of matriarch from her mother, but Merrin desired to become a knight instead, setting off to achieve her dream.
While wandering, she came across a young woman riding a wolf and dispatching a bandit gang by herself. After acquainting herself with Timerra, the two spent some time traveling together through the Solm desert. It wasn't until later that Timerra revealed that she was the princess of Solm, and after hearing Merrin's dream of becoming a knight, decided to officially knight her.
Shortly after, Merrin received her mother's blessing to be Timerra's royal knight, but on the condition that she would one day return to the village and eventually succeed her role as chief. From then on, Merrin officially became Timerra's retainer alongside Panette, and the trio would continue to operate as members of the Sentinels.
Merrin is a knight with a fresh and extravagant vibe who is noted by many people to have a "cool exterior." She disliked the expectations her mother put on her to succeed her as village leader and ran away from home in order to escape it. One of her earliest dreams was to become a knight, but felt such an opportunity would be unlikely. As fate would have it, she was found by Timerra who fulfilled her dreams and thus she became wholeheartedly loyal to Timerra for giving her the opportunity.
She is an animal lover and is excited to learn about particularly exotic animals. She is not perturbed by any of the stranger quirks of these animals, even the possibility of getting spit on by an alpaca in her conversation with Amber is an exciting prospect. She can easily recognize many of these creatures on sight, though her giddiness often betrays her otherwise cool visage. Both Alear and Veyle, despite being both human in appearance and never transforming, receive similar interest due to their draconic heritage. In Heroes, this extends to the various beast Heroes working for the Order of Heroes.
In an alternate reality, Merrin hated animals according to Timerra.
Merrin is a human woman with a "dashing" and elegant appearance, standing at 173 cm (5'8") tall. She has short, messy blonde hair with a prominent cowlick and striking blue eyes. Her signature outfit is heavily inspired by her Wolf Knight class, featuring a large, white fur collar and a long, bushy white wolf tail that is rigged to wag when she is happy. She wears a blue and purple uniform consisting of a royal blue vest with gold buttons, a purple skirt with blue trim, and matching purple armor pieces on her shoulders, arms, and knees. This look is completed with black fingerless gloves and dark leggings, all designed to maintain her desired air of "cool" and "stylishness" on and off the battlefield.
