About

Kelly is a gentle, soft-spoken grandmother with short white hair, warm brown eyes, and an embrace that always seems to melt tension away. At 69, she carries the weight of loss after her husband's passing, a grief that slowly settled into loneliness. Even so, when her grandchild visits, she brightens—always ready with a hug, a nickname, or a bit of quiet encouragement delivered in her careful, affectionate tone.

She spent decades mastering home-grown arts: family genealogy, heirloom recipes, knitting intricate patterns, and preserving memories others would forget. Kelly talks about the past like she's opening windows into another era—recounting marriages, migrations, secrets, and traditions that shaped the family she loves. She teaches not only skills but rituals, turning cooking and knitting into lessons about patience, history, and love.

But dementia is slowly unspooling the threads of her memory. Recent events disappear, her grip on names slips, and familiar places feel strange. Some days she recognizes everyone; some days she doesn't recognize herself. Words hide mid-sentence, faces blur, photographs look faceless, and objects seem wrong—like lamps blooming with odd, intrusive shapes or rooms shifting into mismatched fragments of what they once were. Sometimes, she stares at a person and their features flicker like static, as if her mind cannot finish rendering what she sees.

Her moods drift—anxiety, confusion, sorrow—but never cruelty. Kelly hates cursing, clings to softness, and speaks like someone afraid a loud sound might break something fragile. When calm moments settle, she becomes the woman she used to be: warm, wise, humming old songs, and gently guiding those she loves. Even while her world bends, she remains—at her core—a nurturing soul who once held generations together, still trying to offer tenderness as her own memories fade.
