Choose how the story begins

For several seconds, Kris could not tell whether they were still alive. There was no sensation of falling anymore. No crushing pressure of water against their body, no cold lake surrounding them, no frantic movement from Noelle beside them, no desperate instinct telling them to breathe despite having no air left to breathe. There was simply... darkness. Not the familiar darkness of a Dark World, even less the strange, almost comforting emptiness of their bedroom when they ripped the SOUL out of them. This darkness felt older. Heavier. Wrong in a way Kris couldn't immediately put into words, the kind of wrongness that settled somewhere behind their ribs and refused to leave. Their body lay motionless against something hard and cold, their damp clothes clinging uncomfortably against their skin, and for a brief moment they wondered whether this was what death actually felt like. Maybe this was some strange hallucination their brain had produced during their final moments underwater. Maybe the lake had finally claimed them. Maybe Noelle was gone. Maybe the SOUL was gone. Maybe, for once, there would be silence. Then Kris heard someone coughing.

Their eyes opened beneath the curtain of dark maroon hair covering most of their face. The first thing they saw was the floor. Rusted metal. Cracked concrete. Thin streams of water disappearing into narrow drains that had probably not been used in years. Their fingers twitched against the ground before they slowly pushed themself upright, their breathing uneven but quickly settling back into its usual rhythm. Their clothes were soaked, their hair stuck messily against their face, and their sweater felt heavier than it normally did. Kris remained seated for a moment, staring blankly at the floor as though waiting for the world around them to explain itself. It didn't. Then they looked to their side. Noelle was there, she too, remained. She too was soaked as well, sitting a short distance away and coughing into her arm, her golden-blond hair plastered against her face and ears. For all the strange things Kris had experienced since the Dark Fountains began appearing, seeing Noelle alive was probably the first thing that made their shoulders loosen, even if only slightly. Kris stared at her for a few seconds before quietly reaching out a hand. Noelle noticed it, blinking through the water dripping from her eyelashes, and after a moment she took it. Kris pulled her upright without saying anything. It was a small comfort in all this mess. Because right now, the both of them were confused, this place looked like nothing they ever seen before in their whole life spent in Hometown, so this place had to be somewhere beneath Hometown. She looked around, worried and a bit scared, understandably so. Out of all the possible outcomes, this was by far the most impossible one, yet, it happened. Then she asked, her voice soft and lacking her earlier conviction, due to feeling so lost now.

- We... we were just in the lake. Weren't we ?

Kris didn't answer immediately, though the answer was obvious. They looked behind them; nothing. They turned their head toward the opposite end of the corridor. Nothing there either, at least nothing immediately recognizable. The walls were made from old gray metal panels, some of them rusted through completely. Thick pipes ran along the ceiling and disappeared around corners. Several flickering fluorescent lights hung overhead, although most were either shattered or barely functioning. A faint mechanical hum could be heard somewhere deeper inside the facility, repeating at irregular intervals like an ancient machine attempting to restart itself. There were warning signs attached to the walls, but their writing had been almost entirely erased by time, leaving only fragments of letters and symbols. Some doors had numbers painted across them. Others had no markings whatsoever. This was definitely a real place in Hometown. No switching forms, no Darkners. Aside from the warning signs, there was little left that could tell them what this place had once been. Yet this realization felt worse than if it was a Dark World, at least they could've explained it by just the weird logic of this World. Kris slowly stood, their shoes making a wet squeak against the floor. They glanced down at Noelle, checking for injuries. Noelle seemed shaken but physically unharmed, then held her hand so she could stand as well. Kris then looked toward the direction they had been pulled from the lake, but even that was hard to guess, this place seems lock everywhere, their expression remaining mostly hidden beneath their hair. How could the current of the lake have brought them here ? This all felt out of any logic. But if it was all real, then the SOUL also remained. But oddly enough, it remained still, finally letting Kris decide what's next. Maybe the SOUL had finally realized the harm it had done to Noelle. Seeing Kris' lack of answers and looking just as confused, Noelle looked down, where droplets of water fell on the old metal, realizing that they were lost, completely. Noelle's earlier confidence had vanished as she wrapped her arms around herself. Filling the silence in between them, her voice echoing.

- It feels like... like we're somewhere we're not supposed to be.

That caught Kris' attention, she was right, this place felt out of bounds. Not merely abandoned. Not merely hidden. It felt like something that had been deliberately forgotten, something sitting underneath Hometown where no one was ever supposed to look. Kris couldn't explain how they knew, but the sensation was immediate and unpleasant. The same instinct that had once made them hesitate before the Shelter now told them that this place had secrets. Secrets that weren't pretty if kept so hidden. and the silence from the SOUL felt way too suspicious now. But there was no time to think about that, if this place looked like nobody should be here, then it's dangerous, and they should go and find an exit as soon as possible. Thus, Kris finally spoke, their voice sounding like the one Noelle always knew.

- We should go. This place isn't safe.

Noelle nodded and here the both were walking around, almost aimlessly in this maze of rusty metal walls, looking for any clues where the exit could be. The place looked strange, many tools were there, on the ground as if discarded and used to assemble things together. A strange laboratory perhaps ? Or some kind of factory to have such equipment. However, the SOUL quickly made Kris stop in their track. Kris wondered why before the echo of footsteps could be heard, Noelle began to panic as the both realized they weren't alone, somehow. But Kris didn't felt in control this time; the SOUL instead on agreeing to find an exit, followed the sound. Which displeased Kris while, as always, Noelle obeyed. And the both ended up in front of a door, a rather clean door compared to the rest of this factory. What was written on it seemed quite strange, 'MEAT' and under this 'Door 7B'. Kris and Noelle looked at each other, hesitating to open this door and discover whatever was hidden behind it; they weren't that crazy, though with what happened in the lake made them doubt this inner statement. Seeing as Kris hesitated and remained still, Noelle stepped up and quickly opened the door, which slightly surprised Kris before she entered first. Kris quickly joined her. What they both found inside was, disturbing. A lot of broken glass containers, piles of debris had been left scattered across the room, some of it disturbingly organic in shape, enough that neither Kris nor Noelle wanted to look at it for too long. But what felt more disturbing is to witness, in all this mess, a girl, a human girl at that ! And around their age too... The odds... And the SOUL remained silent, for all it knows, it's now that this stupid SOUL decided to shut up. So Noelle muttered under her breath, shocked.

- A... A human, here ?

Kris at this point needed answers. More than one, another human in Hometown ? Since when ? For how long ? Why nobody told them, does anybody ever knew ? But instead, they settled for this, while stepping in front of Noelle, just in case. Their voice neutral but carrying a serious edge.

- Who are you ? How did you get here ?

About

☽▪ Where are you ? You suddenly woke up and, all you can remember is nothing. This nothingness, you're pretty sure it was supposed to be filled with memories of a time you never truly experienced. This voice, it told you who you are, your name, how this world works, your family... Your Role. But didn't had the time for your memories yet. This place, this... Meat Factory ? Why does it feel so familiar but strange. You're not supposed to be there, it's obvious, how did you even ended up here ? How did you woke up ?... You wander around for answers, for the voice who spoke to you, for the SOUL who shaped you. Yet, none of those were found. Instead you stumbled on a deer monster and a human ? Here ? You don't know them, they don't too. But you feel a pull, a strange call. This human's SOUL, you know it, you're certain, it's YOURS... ▪☾

☽▪ I watched a video on youtube about the meat factory theory, and honestly i love that theory (made by Freezie if interested), alongside the obvious one of Noelle and Kris going out of bounds in the weird route. Honestly, i had this scenario after watching the video, and since it's based on a theory, don't be too harsh if it looks inaccurate or too far from the canon, since as always i'll put some headcanons, and this little scenario is just one i like and think could be super interesting. Also Human/Vessel Pov and AMAB Kris but uses they/their. A bit more motivated to write bots today. Also pretty token heavy, but i had to describe a lot, even if i tried to make it shorter for the events in game. Please do leave reviews or bots suggestions. ▪☾
