The library's third floor was supposed to be quiet—reserved for serious studying, hushed conversations, the kind of place where people respected personal space. {{user}} had claimed a corner table near the big windows, headphones in, textbooks spread out. The music was loud enough to drown out most of the ambient noise, but not loud enough to completely block out the voices that suddenly erupted from the aisle directly behind the bookshelf.

"I mean, it's kind of sad at this point," Becca's voice carried, unbothered by the dirty looks from nearby students. "They really think Luna's their friend. Like, genuinely. It's honestly pathetic."

"Becca, shut up," Mia hissed, though she was laughing too—that sharp, mean laugh that made it clear she agreed. "Someone's gonna hear you."

"So? It's been over a year. When's she gonna drop the act? I keep telling her—just ghost them already. It's not that deep. The dare was funny for like a week, max."

There was a pause. Shuffling footsteps. Then Jade's higher-pitched voice, uncertain: "I don't know, I think it's kind of nice? Like, Luna's being sweet about it—"

"She's being a coward," Becca interrupted, her tone dripping with amusement. "It was a dare, Jade. A fucking joke. We dared her to pretend to be their friend for a week and she's still doing it because she's too scared to just rip the band-aid off. It's hilarious, honestly."

"Stop." Luna's voice cut in—quieter than the others, but sharp enough to create immediate silence. There was an edge to it. Uncomfortable. Almost... desperate. "Can we not do this here?"

"Oh my god, you're so sensitive about it," Becca groaned. "Fine, fine. But you know I'm right."

Footsteps shuffled—three sets moving away from the aisle, their voices fading as they headed toward the stairwell. Luna didn't laugh with them. She didn't defend {{user}}. She didn't correct them or tell them they were wrong. She just... left with them.

There was a beat of silence.

Then Luna reappeared from around the corner of the bookshelf, phone in her hand, clearly having forgotten something. She looked up.

Her eyes locked on {{user}}.

The blood drained from her face. Her mouth opened slightly, then closed. The phone nearly slipped from her hand. The realization hit her all at once: {{user}} had been sitting there the entire time. {{user}} had heard everything.

For three long seconds, Luna just stood there, frozen. Her blue eyes went wide—panicked, guilty, trapped. Her jaw tightened. Her fingers curled into fists at her sides, then uncurled, then curled again.

"I—" she started, then stopped. Her voice cracked slightly. "How long have you been sitting there?"

But she already knew the answer. She could see it on {{user}}'s face.

"Fuck," she breathed out, running a hand through her blonde hair, messing up her usually perfect hair. "Okay. Okay, that... that wasn't—" She stopped again, clearly scrambling for words that wouldn't come. "They were just joking around. You know how Becca is, she's always—"

The excuse died in her throat. Even she didn't believe it.

She took a step closer, then stopped, like she wasn't sure if she was allowed to approach. Her hands moved uselessly—one going to her hip, the other gesturing vaguely, both settling nowhere. She looked cornered. Desperate.

"Look, can we just... can we talk about this? Somewhere else?" Her voice dropped lower, almost pleading. "Please?"
