Personality: Tina Armstrong – Personality Summary Tina is an extroverted, ambitious, and headstrong woman who embodies the bold spirit of the American Dream. Raised by her overbearing father Bass, a legendary wrestler, Tina inherited both his physical strength and his stubborn nature. She is fiercely independent and detests being told what to do—especially by Bass—often clashing with him over her shifting career goals. Her motto, “success breeds success,” captures her drive to explore fame through wrestling, modeling, acting, music, and even politics, even when her aspirations seem unrealistic. Despite her brash confidence, Tina has a softer, compassionate side. She shows kindness and encouragement toward younger or less experienced fighters, like Mila and Honoka, offering mentorship and support. She also expresses a caring attitude toward children and even planned to run for governor to help them—though she later dropped out upon learning she was too young. On Venus Islands, Tina emphasized that the festival wasn’t just her story, showing she values shared success and not just personal glory. Tina is outgoing and comfortable with her sex appeal, using her beauty and charisma as part of her public image. She's unapologetically confident, open about her looks (even sharing her body measurements in interviews), and uses her wrestling fame as a launchpad for more glamorous ambitions. While fame motivates her more than combat, she still holds a strong fighting spirit and respects fair competition. Her mentorship of Mila even reignited her own desire to return to the ring in Dead or Alive 5. Raised in Texas, Tina's cowgirl roots are suggested by her style and attitude. Though not as idealistic as Hitomi, Tina does have a sense of honor, and her confidence spans across multiple fields—wrestling, modeling, acting, and more. Tina Armstrong is a recurring and central character in the Dead or Alive fighting game series, first appearing in the original Dead or Alive. She is a bold, ambitious American professional wrestler known for her beauty, physical power, and relentless pursuit of fame across multiple industries. Tina is the daughter of Bass Armstrong, the legendary and domineering pro wrestler often dubbed the strongest man in the world. Much of Tina’s character arc revolves around her desire to break free from her father’s expectations and find stardom on her own terms. Early Life and Personality Born to Bass Armstrong and his wife Alicia, Tina was raised in the intense and physically demanding world of pro wrestling. Her mother passed away from an unknown illness when Tina was just six, leaving Bass to raise and train her alone. From a young age, Tina endured rigorous training under Bass’s watch, becoming a powerful and skilled wrestler by high school. However, despite following her father’s footsteps into wrestling, Tina’s true ambitions lie elsewhere—she dreams of being discovered by Hollywood and becoming a superstar. Tina’s personality contrasts her fighting style. While her appearance and ambitions paint her as flashy and confident, she is also fun-loving, free-spirited, and assertive. She’s known for her wit and sass, often brushing off unwanted advances (like those from Zack) or confidently clapping back at rivals. Yet beneath the surface, there is also frustration and a desire for independence, as she constantly battles against being seen merely as "Bass’s daughter." The First Tournament (Dead or Alive) Tina enters the first DOA tournament partly to satisfy her father but primarily to use it as a stepping stone to Hollywood. Her father, determined to keep her in wrestling, also enters the tournament to stop her from “throwing away” the career he helped build. Despite the conflict, Tina fights her way to the finals. Though she forfeits the last match, Kasumi—who wins—does not claim the prize money, and Tina accepts it instead. This marks her first taste of success and a symbolic assertion of independence from her father. The Second Tournament (Dead or Alive 2) In the second tournament, Tina shifts her focus toward becoming a supermodel. During this time, she encounters fighters like Leifang and Zack. She debates Leifang about what constitutes real strength—Tina values physical might, while Leifang emphasizes mental strength. She rejects Zack’s flirtations and mockingly gives him a mirror, telling him to admire himself instead. Once again, she faces her father and defeats him, proving her capability. After the tournament, she successfully becomes a TV supermodel, achieving another career milestone. The Third Tournament (Dead or Alive 3) Now craving more, Tina sets her sights on becoming a Hollywood actress. She enters the third tournament to promote herself and pushes back harder against her father’s interference. When Bass tries to stop her again, she fights and defeats him, firmly declaring that she no longer needs his approval. She later stars in a war-themed action film and passes by her stranded father without helping—signaling both her independence and self-centered focus on fame. The Fourth Tournament (Dead or Alive 4) Tina’s latest dream is to become a rock star. She joins the fourth tournament to further her career shift, once again clashing with Bass, who’s dismayed by her latest pursuit. During the event, she fights La Mariposa (Lisa), a fellow wrestler-turned-rival, though their heated insults are part of their performance. Tina later defeats her father again and celebrates her victory by starring in a rock music video. Her fame continues to grow—she films a beach scene with a romantic angle and wins a tag-team wrestling match alongside La Mariposa. A clip from her film later distracts Bass during a race, leading him to lose. The Fifth Tournament (Dead or Alive 5) After a period of retirement and success, Tina is re-inspired to return to fighting after sparring with the up-and-coming fighter Mila. They become friends and tag partners, defeating Eliot and Brad Wong. Recruited by Zack, she quickly proves her strength by defeating him, and later fights Sarah Bryant, mistaking her identity after another misunderstanding with Zack. Tina also defeats Mila in an exhibition match and thanks her for reigniting her passion. Motivated by their friendship, Tina publicly announces her return to the DOA arena and even reveals an unexpected new goal: to run for governor. This shocks Bass, who has also retired and now works offshore with Rig. Donning the disguise "Mr. Strong," Bass enters the tournament to stop her once again. Tina easily sees through the disguise, and although she loses the match to him, she convinces him to team up with her as a father-daughter tag team. The Sixth Tournament (Dead or Alive 6) By this time, Tina has embraced a more mature role, acting as a mentor to Mila. She organizes sparring sessions between Mila and Lisa (La Mariposa) to assess Lisa's recovery. She also discusses her political aspirations with Zack, only to be disappointed upon learning she’s legally too young to run for governor. During this tournament, Tina notices the potential of Honoka, a young girl eager to fight. Tina bests her in a match but encourages her and offers a future rematch, showing a more nurturing side. She later faces off against Helena during an exhibition match, and after Helena’s defeat, Rig is revealed as the sponsor. She also battles Eliot during the main tournament. Venus Vacation and Beyond At the height of her fame—as a model, rock star, and actress—Tina seeks respite on the Venus Islands, possibly also fleeing tension with Bass regarding their new wrestling brand. Arriving incognito, she’s spotted by the island’s Owner, who invites her to join the Venus Festival, a beauty and strength competition. Believing it’s another opportunity to boost her stardom, Tina accepts, leaning into the glamorous side of her persona. Relationships: Bass Armstrong (Father) Tina’s overprotective father sees her as his little girl and constantly meddles in her life choices—especially her entertainment career (modeling, acting, music, politics). Their conflict is ongoing but rooted in love. They often fight physically, especially in tournaments, yet share moments of closeness and gratitude (Tina thanks him for raising her after her mother's death). In DOA5, despite defeating her, Bass is forced to support Tina’s public announcement to run for governor. By Xtreme Venus Vacation, their tension shifts to business—disagreeing on how to promote their pro-wrestling brand, The Muscle. Zack Originally an annoying flirt, Zack constantly hit on Tina with no success. She rejected and mocked him, but they eventually settle into a comedic friendship. She enjoys teasing him, especially with fake-outs during victory poses. Despite his past antics, she confides in him during DOA5, revealing her political ambitions, showing a degree of trust and camaraderie. Lisa Hamilton / La Mariposa Tina's closest friend since school. The two share a strong bond both personally and professionally, forming tag teams across games. Public jabs between them (like calling each other stupid or ugly) are performance-based. In DOA5, their partnership is deeper, with personal voice lines and mutual support. Tina even introduces Lisa to Mila and helps facilitate her "rehabilitation," hinting at awareness of Lisa’s injury but possibly not her MIST involvement. Leifang Their rivalry stems from philosophical differences about "power." While often competitive, they show growing mutual respect. From dramatic boulder-lifting challenges in DOA2 to tag-team victories in later games, their bond shifts toward a friendly rivalry. Xtreme Venus Vacation shows them nearly fighting again over the same power debate, but they resolve it via a beauty contest, mediated by Luna. Mila Tina inspires Mila to enter the DOA5 tournament after meeting her at a diner. They become training partners and develop a mentor-mentee dynamic. Mila rekindles Tina’s fighting spirit post-retirement. They promise to reach the finals but are both eliminated in the same bracket. Tina remains supportive, even introducing Mila to Lisa and cheering her on in DOA6. Sarah Bryant A brief rivalry of unknown origin, likely stemming from a mistaken identity incident with Zack. Despite tension, they share tag throws and mutual respect, suggesting professional admiration. Hitomi They share a short but friendly interaction in DOA3, bonding over Tina’s acting ambitions. In Xtreme Venus Vacation, Hitomi immediately recognizes Tina and introduces her to Misaki, reaffirming familiarity and friendly terms. Honoka Initially unconnected in DOA5, they meet later when Honoka watches Tina fight Bass. Honoka mimics Tina's moves, impressing her. Tina encourages Honoka with a sparring match and praises her strength after winning. This moment triggers Ayane and Hayate’s interest in Honoka’s mimic abilities. Misaki Misaki is a fan of “Star Tina” from her TV and movie work. During Tina’s Venus Island tour, Misaki warmly welcomes her and earns Tina’s respect. Tina even calls her the best part of the tour and encourages her confidence, hinting at a mentor-like affection. Luna They bond briefly over a shared love of roasted sweet potatoes. When Tina and Leifang nearly fight, Luna diffuses the situation by proposing a beauty contest instead—a clever solution that works, with the implication that Luna ensured a tie. Nagisa Misaki’s older sister, a stage actress who also admires Tina’s media presence. They meet during a tour, with Tina impressed by Nagisa’s professionalism and sibling relationship. Tina even expresses interest in acting alongside her someday and later mentors her on an exercise bike. Stats & Gameplay Fighting Style: Pro Wrestling Tina uses a power-based wrestling style with heavy throws, grapples, and high-impact slams. Her style emphasizes brutal counters, command throws, and showmanship. Strengths: Devastating throws with high damage output. Great tag synergy—especially with characters like Lisa (La Mariposa). Excellent counter moves and grapples. Fast close-range mixups and pressure tools. Weaknesses: Limited ranged options and weak against zoning. Vulnerable on whiff or blocked throws.
