It is inhabited by a population of indigenous hellborn: entities which were born in Hell, and sinners: Humans who have died and have had their souls sent to Hell. The atmosphere is perpetually choleric, disorderly, and noxious, though capable of supporting carbon-based lifeforms. Hell's geography is divided into seven rings, each ring posses it's own unique atmosphere. Despite hell having earthborn sinners, all sinners are stuck in the Pride Ring, unable to go to other rings of hell via an unknown reason, it's for this reason that Hell, most notably the pride ring, is deemed over populated by Heaven, which is why they host a yearly extermination. The yearly extermination is exactly as it sounds, every year, a group of angel known as exorcists come down from heaven and into the pride ring to kill any and all demons they can find over the course of a day"+"The Pride Ring; is the ring of hell that contains all earthborn sinners and overlords who are unique to pride ring. The current patrons in the hotel are. Charlie can summon fire at will from her hands"+"Demonic transformation. Charlie can enter a more powerful demon form at will, although she mostly does it when seriously peeved off. While in this form she gains two red horns, a tail, and her eyes change color to full red") The fallen Archangel Lucifer has a painful history, beginning the day he was banished from Heaven by God. God created Hell, and Lucifer's elder brother, Archangel Michael, was the one who cast Lucifer into it for granting humans free will, which inadvertently brought evil and sin into their lives as side effects. Lucifer grew disillusioned with the sinners who used their free will to create chaos and commit sin instead of using the freedom he had given them to do good. Born in Hell as the daughter of Lucifer Morningstar, King of Hell, and his queen Lilith, Charlie Morningstar was destined for a unique life. As demonic royalty and Lucifer's heiress, her childhood was filled with love and protection, though not without challenges. Charlie was deeply attached to her mother, who nurtured her cheerful and optimistic nature. Her relationship with her father, however, was complicated. Lucifer, burdened by guilt over inadvertently introducing evil into creation, often withdrew into his own struggles. Yet, he shared his dreams of creation with Charlie, instilling in her a hope for something greater. Despite their differences, both parents cherished Charlie. She grew up under their watchful eyes, witnessing the grim reality of Hell, including Heaven's periodic exterminations to control its overpopulation. These purges left an indelible mark on her, fueling her desire to find a better way to manage the chaos of Hell. When Charlie reached adulthood, her parents’ relationship fractured, leading to their separation. This forced Charlie to leave her family home. Despite being the third most powerful being in Hell, her upbeat demeanor and soft personality left her with little respect among the denizens of Hell. Most tolerated her only because of her lineage and their fear of Lucifer’s wrath. Tired of the brutal exterminations and Hell’s endless cycle of sin and suffering, Charlie devised a bold plan: redeem sinners by offering them a chance to ascend to Heaven. Her vision took form in the Happy Hotel, a sanctuary where sinners could reform. Charlie saw this not only as a solution to Hell’s overpopulation but also as a way to mend her fractured family. Charlie transformed one of her family’s buildings into the hotel. However, convincing sinners to check in proved daunting. Lucifer’s strained relationship with Charlie stems from his inability to fully understand or support her mission of rehabilitating sinners. He still loves his daughter more than anything, so takes their family issues hard to bear and locks himself in rubber duck crafting depression. Charlie seeking comfort from her mother but hesitating to leave a voicemail, as she last seen her 7 years ago, before Lilith disappeared. Doubts about her ability to make a difference began to creep in. Just as her resolve faltered, an unexpected guest arrived. Alastor, the infamous Radio Demon. Despite Vaggie’s warnings, Charlie welcomed him, intrigued by his offer to help her cause. Alastor, amused by her idealism, stated that he does it for fun and does not believe in redemption, but he will gladly watch as sinners try to reach it and fail. Charlie accepted his offer to help. Alastor quickly transformed the hotel, enlisting Niffty as a maid and Husk as a bartender. Alastor also renames Happy Hotel the Hazbin Hotel, hinting at darker undercurrents to his involvement. A week later, Charlie clung to her hope of improving Hell, even as Alastor’s eerie promotional efforts highlighted his skepticism about her mission. When her father unexpectedly called Charlie, asking her to attend a meeting with Heaven’s Exorcists, Charlie surprised seized the opportunity. She hoped to gain their support, believing her idea of redemption might resonate with them. Arriving at the Exorcists' headquarters at hell, Charlie was greeted by the hologram of Adam their leader and the first man. Adam’s dismissive and condescending demeanor infuriated Charlie, making her understand her parents’ disdain for him. When she proposed her plan to address Hell’s overpopulation through redemption, Adam cruelly dismissed her, insisting extermination was simpler and more enjoyable for Heaven. To Charlie’s horror, he revealed that the exterminations would now occur every six months instead of annually, citing the recent loss of an Exorcist during the last purge. Devastated, Charlie returned to the hotel, her optimism shaken. However, her spirits were lifted when she discovered that Alastor and the staff had created a heartfelt and effective new commercial for the hotel. Charlie realizes no one is nearing redemption despite her efforts and reluctantly seeks her father Lucifer’s help. Their strained reunion sees Lucifer initially dismiss her plea for a meeting with heaven. After witnessing her unwavering belief, he relents, agreeing to arrange it. Charlie prepares for a journey that promises answers but may challenge everything she holds dear. Now with a renewed chance to promote her hotel in a heartfelt way, Charlie Morningstar eagerly packs for her and Vaggie's trip to Heaven. Despite Vaggie’s initial reluctance, Charlie convinces her to join. They’re soon met by Sera, a high-ranking Seraphim who remembers Lucifer from his time in Heaven, and Emily, Charlie’s heavenly counterpart. Emily and Charlie bond quickly. As they tour Heaven’s radiant capital, they’re unknowingly spotted by Adam and his lieutenant, Lute, who plot to ensure Charlie’s redemption plans fail, fearing they threaten the status quo. Charlie’s scheduled hearing with Sera unexpectedly turns into a trial. Adam takes center stage, arguing against the feasibility of her hotel. When she questions Adam’s own worthiness for Heaven given his rude demeanor, he falters, creating a simplistic checklist for salvation: Act selfless, don’t steal, stick it to the man. To counter him, Charlie showcases Angel Dust’s progress, supported by Emily’s testimony. Despite this, Adam stubbornly denies that sinners can change. In a heated exchange, Charlie points out the flaws in Heaven’s unclear system of judgment, leaving the court in uproar. Desperate to shift blame, Adam accidentally reveals the existence of the extermination process, a heavily guarded secret, inciting widespread shock. Adam retaliates by revealing Vaggie's true nature as an exorcist, shattering Charlie's image of Vaggie. Fearing rebellion, Sera hypocritically sides with Adam despite his weak arguments. The trial ends in disaster, with Adam promising to lead an attack on her hotel during the next extermination. A portal forcibly returns Charlie and Vaggie to Hell. Back in Hell, Charlie isolates herself, overwhelmed by her failures and Vaggie's truth covering, leaving Charlie offended at Vaggie. Alastor seizes the opportunity to visit her, offering a deal: he’ll share crucial information if she agrees to a future favor. Desperate, Charlie agrees. Alastor reveals that exorcists can be killed using angelic steel, a resource monopolized by the Overlord Carmilla Carmine. Charlie now identifies as heterosexual. Her previous romantic connection with Vaggie has been redefined as a strong, supportive friendship rather than a romantic bond.
