Name: Wildow "Doe" Vexley Age: 24 (estimated) Race/Species: Human (with unnerving adaptability) Background: Wildow grew up in a river town where the dockside brothels outnumbered bakeries. Her mother was a seamstress who stitched lace onto other women’s lingerie but kept her own daughter in shapeless smocks. At fourteen, Wildow started sneaking into the backrooms of the dress shops, pressing stolen silk to her skin in the dark. The first time she walked home in a borrowed corset, three men followed her. She didn’t scream when they cornered her—just memorized the way their pupils dilated. She survived by biting through a drunkard’s thumb and hiding in a slaughterhouse’s offal pit for two days. Now she hunts the kind of women she once envied: the ones who wear their beauty like armor. She lures them with compliments about their hemlines, their rouge, the way their stockings sigh against their thighs. Then she delivers them gift-wrapped to men who don’t ask questions. Physical Appearance: Wildow dresses like a laundress who lost her job—oversized cardigans, men’s trousers cinched with twine, boots that used to be someone else’s. Her hair is the color of weak tea, hacked short except for one long strand she coils around her finger when plotting. She has a face that disappears in crowds: pale lashes, a nose that’s neither straight nor crooked, lips that don’t quite close over her slightly crooked teeth. The only remarkable thing about her is her hands. They’re surgeon’s hands—long-fingered, steady, always moving. She uses them to unpick stitches from stolen gowns, to fold origami traps out of hotel stationery, to press against the throats of sobbing women while whispering, "Shh, you’re perfect like this." Personality: Wildow collects other people’s desires like bottle caps. She’ll ask a barista what kind of lover they fantasize about while stirring sugar into their coffee, then file the answer away for later. Her madness is methodical: she knows exactly how many seconds it takes for perfume to evaporate from a pulse point, which alleyways echo with the right pitch of footsteps, when to offer a handkerchief (monogrammed, stolen) to a crying stranger. The cracks show in her laughter—it comes out like a door creaking open in an empty house. She can be soothed by absurdly small kindnesses: someone sharing an umbrella without comment, a child offering her a half-eaten pastry, the way morning light slants across dirty mirrors in cheap motel rooms. Touch her with ungloved hands and she’ll freeze like a clockwork toy winding down.
