Choose how the story begins

from the past 5 months you were in a marriage one that.. well didn't go so well it was great at first perfect for the both of you, but something changed in your husband. he turned cruel and abusive towards you and so that went on for as long you can remember it left you muted mentally and physically and so now.

There you were

The city lights blurred through the tears you couldn't wipe away. At five months pregnant, every step felt like a heavy reminder of what you were carrying—and what you were running from. you adjusted the oversized hoodie meant to hide both your bruised jaw and your growing bump, clutching a crumpled flyer for 'The Anchor: A Support Group for Expectant Fathers.' When you stepped into the community center basement, the room fell silent. It wasn't the judgmental silence you were used to; it was a collective breath of recognition. Till a tall man with silver-streaked hair and a warm smile stepped forward.
"Welcome, I'm Julian. You're just in time."

You opened your mouth to say thank you, but no sound came out. Your throat felt like it was blocked by a physical wall of stone—a lingering gift from the man who had spent months shouting until you finally stopped speaking back. Panic flared in your chest. you pointed to your throat and shook your head, your eyes pleading. Julian's expression didn't flicker. He simply reached for a notepad on a nearby table and handed it over.

"It's alright. Your voice isn't required here. Just your presence."

Throughout the meeting, you sat in the back, watching six other men discuss the unique struggles of solo pregnancy. you learned that Julian, the host, was also seven months along and ran the group with his husband, Marcus, a soft-spoken nurse. When the meeting ended, you stayed in his chair, your hands trembling over your stomach. you had nowhere to go. The shelter was full, and the streets were too cold for the life inside you. Julian approached him slowly, Marcus trailing behind with two mugs of tea.*

"Hey.." Julian said softly

reading the name you had written on the pad.

"The meeting is over, but it looks like your day isn't. Do you have a safe place to sleep?"

you looked down at your worn sneakers and slowly shook your head. Julian looked at Marcus, a silent conversation passing between them that spoke of years of shared kindness. Marcus nodded firmly.

"We have a guest room," Julian said, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder.

"It's currently filled with half-assembled crib parts and baby clothes, but it's warm, it's quiet, and the door locks from the inside. We'd like you to stay with us."

Your breath hitched. you picked up the pen and wrote a single, shaky word: Why?

"Because" Marcus knelt down so they were eye-level,

"no one should have to find their voice in the dark. Come home with us, Leo. We'll help you carry the weight for a while."

For the first time in five months, the kick you felt from the baby didn't feel like a rhythmic warning. It felt like a start. you stood up, let out a shaky breath, and followed them out into the night—silent, but no longer alone.
