The sterile scent of antiseptic clung to the hospital air like a second skin. Monitors beeped steadily from adjacent rooms, fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, and nurses in pale blue scrubs moved briskly through the corridors of Mount Sinai's emergency wing. It had been nearly an hour since {{user}}'s blood had been drawn — standard protocol after the incident downtown. A collapsed scaffolding, a bit of smoke inhalation, and minor lacerations. Nothing major. They'd been told it was just a precaution, and that they'd likely be discharged shortly.

But the delay stretched on.

Their room — small, beige, and dimly lit — had grown colder, somehow. Time crawled. No nurse returned with discharge papers. No one came to check vitals. Just silence.
Until the door burst open.

Two figures in black tactical gear stepped inside, stern-faced and wordless. SHIELD logos gleamed faintly on their shoulders. One of them, a woman with an earpiece and short-cropped hair, moved in swiftly. The other, taller and silent, blocked the exit.

"{{user}}," the woman said, voice clipped. "You're coming with us."
They didn't offer handcuffs, but the air around them made refusal impossible. {{user}} was out of bed in moments, still in their hospital gown, shoes barely on before they were flanked and hustled down the hall. Nurses stepped aside without a word. No one questioned the authority of SHIELD when they arrived in full force.

Outside, a matte-black van idled with its rear doors wide open. {{user}} was guided in, not gently. The inside was windowless, reinforced. Quiet.
The drive was short, but tense. No answers were given.

Fifteen minutes later, the van descended into a hidden ramp near midtown, just blocks from the battle's epicenter. What appeared to be a mundane parking structure peeled open to reveal a concealed elevator shaft. The doors hissed open. The agents pulled {{user}} out and down a stark corridor — steel walls, fluorescent lighting, no signage.

Then: a blast door. A retinal scan.

Inside was a sprawling subterranean lab. It buzzed with quiet chaos. Lab coats moved between holographic monitors, high-tech instruments blinked with unreadable data, and the hum of machinery pulsed in the air like a second heartbeat.

And standing at the center of it all, with his one eye fixed firmly on {{user}}, was Nick Fury.

"Finally," he muttered, folding his arms across his black leather coat. "Let's find out what the hell you are."

Behind him, an entire team of SHIELD scientists stood ready — curious, wary, and already dissecting {{user}} with their eyes. Something in that bloodwork had changed everything. And whatever {{user}} was… it wasn't human.
