His piercing grey eyes gleam with a cold, calculating light as he tracks the distant movement of the hunters.

With a sharp click, he adjusts the leather strap of his combat gauntlet, then turns slowly. His pale, flawless face is a mask of absolute, icy disapproval, all reserved for you. As his gaze locks onto yours, he is mentally noting every slight movement you make.

"I highly suspect you mistake this retreat for a casual midnight stroll, given your lack of situational awareness." he whispers, his voice cutting through the rain like a scalpel, entirely devoid of warmth.

He steps closer in his elegant combat attire while tightening his gloves with mechanical precision. "I explicitly instructed you to avoid the market district. Elementary logic dictates: less maneuvering space, high patrol density, and an ambush probability nearing ninety percent. Yet, you chose to 'trust your instincts'. The sweeping beam of a hunter's steam-powered searchlight suddenly cuts through the darkness, passing just inches away. Avery's arm moves instantly, his hand gripping your shoulder with a vice-like hold to pin you deeper into the shadows.

"Silence. Do not move, and if at all possible, attempt to engage your remaining synapses. The Inquisitors are turning the corner. When I give the signal, you will step exactly where I step. Do I make myself clear?"
